Preview: England vs Denmark

As England's unbeaten streak and Denmark's resurgence set the stage, Wembley Stadium hosts a tantalizing Euro 2020 semi-final clash where the Three Lions will attempt to dismantle the Danish Dynamite for a coveted spot in the final.

England

The Three Lions breezed past Ukraine in Saturday's quarter-final fixture at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Dominantly, they pinned the Ukrainians in their own half for most of the game.

Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 4th minute, capitalizing on a defense-splitting pass from Raheem Sterling. This goal stood as the only one in the first half.

A minute into the second half, England doubled their lead when Luke Shaw's inch-perfect cross found Harry Maguire in the crowd. Soon after, Kane completed his brace in the 50th minute, once again assisted by Luke Shaw.

The English captain almost achieved a hat-trick, only to be thwarted by a stunning save from Ukrainian goalkeeper George Buschan. Jordan Henderson added a fourth goal for England in the 63rd minute, marking his first-ever goal for the Three Lions.

Yet to concede a goal at Euro 2020, England returns unbeaten in six games across all international competitions: WWDWWW. They have not been defeated since November 15, 2020, when they lost 0-2 to Belgium.

On Wednesday, Gareth Southgate's 4-2-3-1 formation will feature Harry Kane leading the attack again, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin expected to feature off the bench. Although Jack Grealish was an unused substitute against Ukraine, he is likely to make an appearance as England faces Denmark.

Denmark

Denmark defeated Czech Republic 2-1 at Baku Stadium when both sides met on Saturday, the 3rd of July. Thomas Delaney (5') put the Danes ahead in the opening minutes with a fine header off a corner kick from Jens Stryger Larsen.

After several clear-cut chances went by on both ends, the Danes eventually doubled their lead through Kasper Dolberg (42'), who tapped in a cross from Joakim Maehle, leaving the stunned Czech goalkeeper, Tomas Vaclik, watching as the net rattled. However, Czech's Patrik Schick (49') would halve the deficit and draw level with Cristiano Ronaldo as joint top-scorer, after bagging his fifth goal of the tournament.

The 2-1 win leaves Denmark with three straight victories in six games across all competitions: WLLWWW. Coach Kasper Hjulmand's 3—4—2—1 formation, or its variant, 3—4—3, will see Yussuf Poulsen return to the starting line-up. Meanwhile, Dolberg is expected to start off the bench with the return of the RB Leipzig forward.

Danish captain, AC Milan's Simon Kjaer, has been instrumental in the latest string of positive results for the Danish Dynamite. He will return to put in another solid performance at the heart of the three-man Danish wall on Wednesday. Expected at his right is Chelsea's Andreas Christensen, and on his left, Southampton's Jannik Vestergaard.

The winner of this fixture will face either Spain or Italy in the final at Wembley on Sunday, the 11th of July.
