France to begin Euro 2024 campaign against Austria.

As Austria kicks off their Euro 2024 journey against the formidable France in Düsseldorf, fans eagerly anticipate a thrilling clash where both teams aim to assert dominance in their group opener.

Austria

Austria will make their first appearance at the ongoing Euros when they face France this Monday. After finishing as runners-up in Group F during the qualifying round with six wins, one draw, and one loss, Austria aims to continue their impressive form in the lead-up to Euro 2024.

The team is on a five-game unbeaten streak, emerging victorious against Germany, Turkey, and Serbia before a recent 1-1 draw with Switzerland. These results have undoubtedly boosted their confidence ahead of Monday’s clash. This will be the third encounter between Austria and France in a major tournament, with each team having secured one win in previous meetings.

However, Austria has a challenging record against France, having won only one of their last ten encounters. A poor start on Monday could complicate their path, as they still have difficult matches against Poland and the Netherlands in Group D. Earlier today, in a press conference, head coach Ralf Rangnick expressed satisfaction with the "perfect conditions to prepare" in Berlin and noted the absence of fresh injury concerns.

In their recent 1-1 draw with Switzerland, Austria deployed a 4-3-3 formation. However, Ralf Rangnick is expected to switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation with Florian Grillitsch in attack against France.

France

The focus will rightly be on favourites France when they make their first appearance at Euro 2024 on Monday. The two-time winners (1998 & 2000) breezed through the qualifying round, winning seven of their eight games [7W, 1D, 0L].

Well-decorated in the world of international football, Didier Deschamps is now hoping to steer Les Bleus to their third European Championship title. Only Spain and host nation, Germany, have won more titles (3).

With a star-studded lineup, France shouldn't have many problems putting Austria away, at least not on paper, especially with the likes of Kylian Mbappé, who scored nine times in the qualifying round. Only Germany defeated France [DLWWD] in the previous five games leading up to Euro 2024.

"We’re a complete package, whether that’s defensively or offensively. Going forward, we’ve got some of the world’s best players," Benjamin Pavard said ahead of Monday’s meeting. "Defensively, there’s a lot of strong competition. We’re such a united group," he added.

A 4—2—3—1 formation with Marcus Thuram in attack is expected for Monday’s fixture against Austria.
