Georgia begins Euro 2024 campaign against Montella-led Turkey.
In a thrilling opening to Euro 2024, Turkey will look to overcome their winless streak as they face European Championship debutants Georgia at Signal Iduna Park, with both sides eager to make a memorable start in Group F.
Turkey
Turkey will begin their European campaign with Tuesday’s game against Georgia. The Group D winners, with five wins, two draws, and one loss, share Group F with Portugal, Czechia, and, of course, Georgia.
Turkey will be making their third consecutive appearance at the Euros and their sixth overall. However, an abysmal run-up to Euro 2024 leaves Turkey with a five-game winless streak.
"There is no doubt that it will be an incredible atmosphere. I hope it will be nice to see red and white on the Yellow Wall," said nineteen-year-old Arda Güler ahead of the clash.
Led by former AC Milan manager and Roma player, Vincenzo Montella, Turkey have won three of their last five games against Georgia. Despite losing six of their last seven games at the Euros, they will be keen to get off to a flying start.
A 4—2—3—1 formation with Yilmaz in attack is expected for Tuesday’s clash against Georgia.
Georgia
European Championship debutants Georgia have only won twice in their last five games prior to their first European appearance. Georgia finished in 4th place during the qualifying round but qualified via play-offs after beating Luxembourg and Greece.
On Tuesday, the Crusaders will be keen to start off on a bright note despite their shabby display in the qualifying round. "Every pass, every shout from the fans, even from the supporters of our opponents – everything is important,” Nika Kvekveskiri said. He scored the winning penalty in the play-off win against Greece.
“Right now, we need to get closer to each other and develop a bigger synergy between us and the Georgia fans. We all need to try to create another miracle and reward our support with more beautiful days,” he added. Tuesday’s clash will be Georgia’s first game in a major international tournament.
A 3—5—2 formation with Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Georgia’s top scorer in the qualifying round, and Georges Mikautadze in attack is expected. Solomon Kverkvelia and Otar Kiteishvili are in doubt for the country’s opener but are expected to make a start in this midweek European encounter.
