PSG take on Clermont after reaching Coupe de France Final.

After securing a place in the French Cup final, PSG host struggling Clermont Foot 63 at Parc des Princes in a warm-up to their UEFA Champions League showdown with Barcelona.

Paris Saint Germain

PSG will begin preparations to host Clermont, having reached the French Cup final on Wednesday night following a 1-0 win over Rennes. A goal from none other than Kylian Mbappé in the 40th minute saw Les Parisiens slip past Rennes in the French Cup semi-final at Parc des Princes. Les Parisiens will take on Lyon in the Coupe de France final scheduled for May 25.

Wednesday’s win left PSG with three wins in a row across all competitions. They picked up back-to-back victories in Ligue 1 following a 2-0 win over Marseille. Les Parisiens are hoping to keep a 12-point gap at the top of the table in place before the highly anticipated UEFA Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash against FC Barcelona.

PSG, who have 62 points (18 wins, 8 draws, 1 loss), could go 23 games without defeat, having gone 22 Ligue 1 games unbeaten (16 wins, 6 draws). However, they have not won any of their last two Ligue 1 games against Clermont (0 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss). Coach Luis Enrique played with a forked attack in last weekend’s Le Classique and in the French Cup against Rennes. He is expected to do so again in a 4-3-1-2 or 4-4-2 formation. Midweek hero Kylian Mbappé is expected to team up with Ousmane Dembélé in attack once again.

As many as four players are ruled out, including Bradley Barcola and Sergio Rico.

Clermont

Bottom-placed Clermont are hoping for an unlikely return to winning ways after last weekend’s 3-0 loss to Toulouse.

Clermont have only 20 points this season, a far cry from their exploits last season, where they finished in 8th place. Counting three points for a win, no team with 22 points or less at this stage has managed to stay in the top flight.

They head into Saturday’s clash with PSG having the worst attacking record in Ligue 1 after scoring only 19 goals in 27 games. Having failed to score in their last two away games against Nice and Metz, Clermont could go three consecutive away games without a goal for the first time in Ligue 1 history.

Pascal Gastien is expected to deploy a 3-4-3 formation with Alan Virginius at the center of the attacking trio. Elba Rashani, who picked up a red card against Le Havre, will serve his final game suspension here.
