Stuttgart take on Sparta Praha hoping to find maiden UCL win.

As Stuttgart aims to bounce back from their opening defeat in the revamped UEFA Champions League against Sparta Praha, football fans can expect an electrifying battle at the MHPArena on Tuesday, October 1.

VfB Stuttgart

Despite playing just under half an hour with ten men, Stuttgart managed to rally back late in the game to earn a 2-2 draw away at Wolfsburg last Saturday. This hard-fought point leaves them in 8th place with eight points [2W, 2D, & 1D].

The Reds [WWLWD] are keen to recover from their opening day 3-1 defeat away at Real Madrid as they take on Sparta Praha on UCL Match Day 2 in this revamped competition. Currently, the German side are without a point [0W, 0D, 1L], placing them among the 15 other sides on a similar quest, including Barcelona and AC Milan.

This fixture marks the first encounter between Stuttgart and Sparta Praha on European soil. Interestingly, the last time the Reds faced a side from Czechoslovakia was in the 1997-98 Cup Winners’ Cup quarterfinal, when they won 3-1 on aggregate against Slavia Prague.

The hosts are looking to avoid losing their opening two matches of a UCL campaign for only the second time since 2007-08. However, Stuttgart have won just two of their last eight home games in the UCL after winning three of their first four such games between 1984 and 2003.

A 4—2—3—1 formation with Ermedin Demirović leading the attack is expected for Tuesday's clash. Meanwhile, Ameen Al-Dakhil, Leonidas Stergiou, and Nikolas Nartey are all doubts for this game.

Sparta Praha

Sparta Praha [WWWWL] experienced their first loss of the season with a 3-2 defeat against Sigma in the Czech First League. Following a 3-0 victory over Salzburg in their opening Champions League fixture, they approach this match with a poor record against German opposition in the Champions League.

The visitors have won just one of their last nine games against German sides in European competition [1W, 4D, & 4L], and are winless in five [0W, 3D, & 2L] since a 1-0 victory over Hertha Berlin in March 2000. Additionally, Sparta have lost each of their last seven away games in the UCL, conceding 20 goals while scoring just three.

Since a 1-0 win away at Porto in December 2001, Sparta are winless in their last 12 UCL away games [0W, 2D, & 10L]. Nigerian striker Victor Olatunji, who has scored six goals in 15 appearances this season, is expected to lead the line for Sparta in a 3-4-3 formation, flanked by Veljko Birmančević and Lukáš Haraslín.
