Toulouse eager for maiden successive victories.
Toulouse FC aims for back-to-back victories for the first time this season as they face a faltering Stade de Reims, who are eager to halt their losing streak, in their 50th top-flight meeting this Sunday at Stadium de Toulouse.
Toulouse
Toulouse secured a crucial victory to end their four-match winless streak with a commanding 3-0 win away at Montpellier. Zakaria Aboukhlal set the pace with an early brace, scoring in the 5th and 8th minutes, before Joshua King added a third in a dominant first-half performance.
Manager Carles Martínez Novell expressed his satisfaction, stating, "I'm very happy. The team understood what I wanted to put in place today by starting well, which is something we sometimes lack.” This victory elevated Toulouse to 14th place with nine points from nine matches.
Le Téfécé are aiming for back-to-back Ligue 1 victories for the first time this season as they prepare to host Reims on Sunday. This will mark the 50th top-flight meeting between the sides. History favors Toulouse in this fixture as they have only lost once at home to Reims in the last 60 years, a 1-0 defeat in December 2019.
However, recent encounters haven't been favorable for Toulouse, with only two wins in the last six league games against Reims. Furthermore, Novell's team has won just one of their last ten home matches in Ligue 1. The expected formation is a 3-4-1-2 with Aboukhlal, King, and Yann Gboho leading the attack.
Reims
Reims enjoyed a bright start to the campaign, losing just one of their opening seven league matches with four wins, two draws, and one loss. However, the Red and Whites are entering this clash on the back of consecutive league defeats for the first time this season, losing their last two matches by an identical 2-1 scoreline.
In their most recent league game against Brest, Luka Elsner's side conceded two goals within the first 18 minutes and could not find a way back, despite halving the deficit as early as the 29th minute via Joseph Okumu. These two defeats are more than Reims had suffered in their previous ten matches, which included six wins, three draws, and one loss.
With these recent setbacks, Reims have dropped to 6th place with 14 points after nine matches. Heading into Sunday's clash with Toulouse, one of the worrying signs for Elsner will be how his side has yet to successfully have a shutout this season.
The Red and Whites have conceded 14 goals, the joint-most by any side in the top eight, along with Lyon. A 4-3-3 formation with Junya Ito, Oumar Diakité, and Keito Nakamura in attack is expected for the clash with Toulouse.
