‘Tottenham are a tough task,' Everton boss Sean Dyche says ahead of clash.

Tottenham Hotspur look to secure their first home win of the season under Ange Postecoglou's leadership as they host an Everton side eager to break their August jinx and bounce back from a tough opening day loss.

Tottenham Hotspur

Despite taking the lead via Pedro Porro in the 29th minute, Tottenham had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Leicester City, as Jamie Vardy restored parity in the second half with a fabulous header. Ange Postecoglou, who looked exasperated on the touchline, now hopes to pick up a win in Spurs’ first home game on Match Day 2.

Speaking after the draw with Leicester, Postecoglou said, ‘Yeah, disappointing outcome. Very dominant first half, really wasteful in front of goal.’ The 58-year-old manager will be hoping his side is more clinical in front of goal when they take to the pitch against Everton.

When it comes to goals, this fixture has always favoured the North London side, having scored more Premier League goals against the Toffees than any other side overall. Meanwhile, Spurs have won their first Premier League home match in five of the last six seasons.

New signing Dominic Solanke made his debut against Leicester but failed to find the back of the net. He is expected to retain his place in attack when Tottenham line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Everton. Unfortunately, Rodrigo Bentancur will miss Saturday’s fixture after being stretchered off following a head injury against the Foxes.

Everton

Ten-man Everton suffered a 3-0 defeat against Brighton on Match Day 1 at Goodison Park. Having gone two goals down before the hour mark, any hope of a potential comeback was dashed when Ashley Young was sent off in the 66th minute.

While the visitors have failed to win a Premier League game in August for the past three seasons [0W, 3D, 6L], they will be looking to break the jinx when they travel to face Tottenham this weekend. However, Everton have won just one of their last 23 games against Spurs [1W, 11D, 11L] and just three of their last 20 Premier League away games against London sides [3W, 6D, 11L].

‘They are all big games in the Premier League, but this is about reacting on this occasion,’ Sean Dyche said, addressing the need to bounce back quickly from the opening day defeat. ‘Tottenham are a tough task; they are very strong and have invested heavily,’ he added.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is expected to be in attack when Dyche deploys the 4-2-3-1 formation against Tottenham on Saturday. Meanwhile, Ashley Young is suspended after picking up a red card for a cynical foul in the game against the Seagulls.
