Torino in three-horse race for eighth place as Milan visits.

In a pivotal clash at Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, Torino look to upset AC Milan and strengthen their bid for an eighth-place finish on Saturday at 19:45 [GMT+1].

Torino

A 2-1 win over Verona at the weekend ensured 10th-placed Torino remained in the race for an eighth-place finish. It was the first win in five Serie A games (DDLDW) for the club, which finished in 10th place last season.

The victory gave Torino 50 points this season, with a record of 12 wins, 14 draws, and 10 losses. The club has a goal ratio of 0.92 goals per game, having scored 33 goals in 36 Serie A games.

Il Toro are only three points adrift of 8th-placed Fiorentina, who take on 9th-placed Napoli in a mid-table encounter on Friday. Ivan Jurić will be hoping that the decisive fixture, poised to shape the outcome of the three-horse race for 8th place, ends up in a draw.

Meanwhile, Torino have won three of their last five home games against AC Milan in Serie A, matching their total wins from the previous 24 home matches against the Rossoneri (3W, 16D, 5L). Victory for Il Toro will not only improve their chances of participating in the European Conference League but also leave them with back-to-back home victories over Milan, following a 2-1 win last time out.

A 3-4-1-2 formation with Duván Zapata and Antonio Sanabria in attack is expected from Ivan Jurić against AC Milan.

Milan

An emphatic 5-1 win over relegation-threatened Cagliari guaranteed Milan a second-place finish. Mathematically untouchable, AC Milan [DLDDW], with 74 points [22W, 8D, & 6L], are seven points ahead of the pair composed of 3rd-placed Atalanta and 4th-placed Juventus, who both have 64 points.

With Inter crowned champions, the Rossoneri have little to play for other than picking up a three-game winning streak over II Toro, having won the last two meetings, 4-1 and 1-0. However, having drawn their last two away games in Serie A, Milan could pick up three consecutive draws in away games in the competition for the first time since they last did so in December 2018 under Gennaro Gattuso.

Stefano Pioli will be without Mike Maignan [hamstring], Ruben Loftus-Cheek [knee injury], and Samuel Chukwueze for the weekend’s game when he deploys the familiar 4—2—3—1 with Giroud in attack. Earlier in the week, the Frenchman announced he will be leaving the club at the end of the current season, following a three-year spell at Milan. Giroud will be teaming up with MLS side Los Angeles Football Club following his exit from Milan.
