1 Strasbourg vs 0 Olympique Marseille
Strasbourg take on Marseille, hoping to end three-game winless run.
In a bid to halt a three-game winless streak, RC Strasbourg face a daunting challenge against high-flying Marseille, who seek to climb level with PSG atop the table in what promises to be an electrifying encounter at Stade de la Meinau.
Strasbourg
Strasbourg will be coming off successive draws after last weekend’s 3-3 draw against LOSC Lille. The precious point helped Le Racing move into 10th place, having picked up 6 points (1W, 3D, 1L) after Match Week 5.
The home side will be looking to put an end to a three-game winless run when they face Marseille this weekend (DWLDD). However, Strasbourg have not won any of their last 17 matches against Marseille in Ligue 1 (0W, 9D, 8L).
Failure to pick up a win here would see them record their longest such streak against the same opponent in the top flight (17 also against Monaco in 1979-1992). Victory here would not only see the home side win their 1000th home match in all competitions but would also see Strasbourg climb a few spots up the table.
A 4—1—4—1 with Emanuel Emegha in attack may be seen once again for Sunday’s clash against Marseille. Liam Rosenior will be without as many as six players, including Thomas Delaine and Milos Lukovic.
Olympique Marseille
Second-placed Marseille will be looking to go level on points with table-topping PSG when they make the trip to Strasbourg. Despite playing almost the entire length of the game against Lyon with ten men after Leonardo Balerdi was shown the red card in the 5th minute, Marseille rallied on to a stoppage-time 3-2 win last weekend.
OM will be looking to pick up back-to-back victories at the weekend against Strasbourg. A fine record on the road this season leaves the visitors with a win in their first three away matches of a season for the second time in their Ligue 1 history, after 2012/13 when they lost their fourth away match. Victory here would leave OM with four such victories for the first time ever.
‘The match against Strasbourg looks even more difficult than the one against Lyon. We have to be at our best, mentally, physically, and tactically,’ Roberto De Zerbi said ahead of the weekend’s clash. ‘A strong, attacking, young team, with good players and a clear identity. They’ve played some beautiful matches. We’ll have to know how to suffer in an atmosphere that promises to be very hot. Strasbourg runs more than Lyon, puts in more intensity,’ he added.
A 4—2—3—1 with Elye Wahi in attack may be seen from Marseille.
