Nottingham in survival race against already-relegated Sheffield.
Amidst a challenging season, relegated Sheffield United aim to halt their downward spiral and salvage some pride against relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest at Bramall Lane this Saturday.
Sheffield United
Already-relegated Sheffield United, who sit at the bottom of the Premier League table, will be coming off the back of four losses in a row as they take on Nottingham Forest this weekend. The Blades have only 16 points, having picked up just three wins over the course of the season.
They will be making an immediate return to the Championship following last season’s promotion after finishing second in the lower league, regardless of the outcome of the remaining three games. On Saturday, they will be playing their first home Premier League match against Nottingham Forest since October 1992.
Sheffield United hope to remain unbeaten in five top-flight home games against Nottingham Forest, having gone four without defeat. The Blades have shipped an astonishing number of goals, leaving the now-relegated side with 97 goals conceded, an average of 2.77 goals per game.
They remain the worst defensive side in the competition and are only three goals away from becoming the second side in Premier League history to concede 100 goals in a single campaign, after Swindon Town in 1993–94. A 3—5—2 formation with Ben Brereton Díaz and Cameron Archer in attack is expected for the weekend's game.
Chris Wilder will be without as many as 10 players for Saturday’s fixture.
Nottingham Forest
Nottingham, who are only a point above the relegation zone, will be looking to remain above the bottom three when they take on Sheffield at the weekend. Last weekend, the Tricky Trees suffered a 2-0 loss to title-chasing Manchester City in front of their home fans.
This defeat left Forest in 17th place with 26 points ahead of the weekend's trip to Sheffield. They hope to end a four-game winless run. However, a torrid run of form against promoted sides leaves them with just one win in 19 Premier League games against such outfits.
Interestingly, the only win in that record came in the reverse fixture against Sheffield United this season. A victory here would hand Forest their first league double over the Blades since the 2003–04 campaign when both sides were in the second tier.
A 4-2-3-1 formation with Chris Wood in attack is expected against Sheffield. Unfortunately, Taiwo Awoniyi and Neco Williams are both ruled out of the weekend’s game.
