Marseille looking to climb two places up table in trip to Reims.
After snapping a winless streak, Reims aim to climb the Ligue 1 table as they host Marseille, who are eager to leapfrog into sixth place.
Reims
Despite putting an end to a three-game losing streak, Reims remained without a win in five games [DLLLD] following the weekend’s 1-1 draw against Brest. It was Samba Diawara's maiden game in charge as interim manager following Will Still's departure.
Reims currently sit in 11th place on the table with 41 points [11W, 8D, & 13L], ahead of this midweek meeting with Marseille. They are only two points adrift of 10th-placed Toulouse, who defeated PSG at the weekend [3-1].
Reims, who have a goal ratio of 1.22 [GPG] this season, having scored 39 goals in 32 Ligue 1 games, will be keen to put an end to a six-game winless run [0W, 3D, 3L] on Wednesday when they welcome OM to the Stade Auguste Delaune. However, the last time they played hosts to Marseille, they ended up with a 1-2 loss to the visitors, with all three goals coming in the first half.
A recent dip in form against OM leaves Les Rouges et Blancs with four straight defeats against the visiting side in Ligue 1. This remains their longest current losing run against a top-flight opponent.
A 4—2—3—1 formation with Oumar Diakité in attack is expected against Marseille. As many as four players are ruled out of this midweek game.
Olympique Marseille
Marseille picked up back-to-back victories at the weekend after a 3-1 win over Lorient. A brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, coupled with a goal from Samuel Gigot, helped OM secure the win.
With the win, OM moved one spot up the table to 8th place with 47 points. Having that many points after 32 Ligue 1 games is their lowest tally at this stage since 2015-16.
This leaves OM mathematically incapable of finishing in the top five for the first time since they suffered a similar fate eight seasons ago. A win over Reims will see Les Olympiens climb two places up the table into 6th place by goal difference, leapfrogging both Lens and Lyon, who have 50 points each.
Marseille has victories in five of their eight Ligue 1 games at Reims in the 21st century. This includes the most recent three, and they will be looking to add a fourth successive away win over the Red and Whites.
A 4—2—3—1 formation with Faris Moumbagna in attack may remain in place for this midweek clash. With this setup, Marseille hopes to continue their winning streak.
