Jude Bellingham in doubt for Madrid's maiden home game.
Real Madrid, aiming for their first home victory of the season, face newly promoted Valladolid at Santiago Bernabéu, eager to extend their five-game winning streak over the visitors.
Real Madrid
Real Madrid failed to get off to a flying start after a 1-1 draw against RCD Mallorca. Rodrygo [13'] put the Whites in front with a fabulous right-footed curler, but Mbappe failed to convert a clear-cut chance to double Madrid’s lead.
Following the break, Mallorca grew in confidence, and it wasn't long until Vedat Muriqi [53’] levelled the scoreline at the Son Moix. Carlo Ancelotti will be keen to see Madrid pick up their first victory on home soil when they welcome newly promoted Valladolid for Match Day 2’s clash.
While Madrid have failed to win any of their last three matches [0W, 3D, 0L], they will be hoping to extend a five-game winning run over the visitors. "We have worked on what went wrong in the last game, and against Valladolid, it will be a good test," Ancelotti said in a pre-match press conference.
Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo, and Mbappe are expected in attack when Carlo Ancelotti deploys the 4-3-3. Jude Bellingham’s availability remains a mystery after the English midfielder picked up a knock in training.
“Following tests carried out today on our player Jude Bellingham by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the plantar thin muscle of his right leg,” an official statement read. Left-back Ferland Mendy, who received his marching orders deep inside stoppage time, is suspended for Sunday’s fixture. Eduardo Camavinga is also ruled out until early September.
Real Valladolid
Unlike Madrid, Valladolid began their new life in La Liga with a 1-0 win over Espanyol last weekend at the José Zorrilla. Raúl Moro provided the game’s only goal to help Valladolid secure an opening-day win.
After finishing in 2nd place in the Segunda División and gaining promotion to La Liga, the White and Violets are hoping to remain in the top flight at the end of the current season. To do so, Valladolid will be keen to earn as many points as possible from difficult games such as the weekend’s encounter against the Whites.
However, Valladolid have lost on each of their last three visits to Madrid-based teams. Meanwhile, a win on Sunday would leave Valladolid with two opening victories for the first time since 2012/13.
Head coach Paulo Pezzolano is expected to deploy a 4-5-1 formation with Mamadou Sylla in attack. Anuar is ruled out until early September.
