Real Madrid eager to bounce back after UCL defeat to Milan.
As Real Madrid aim to recover from recent setbacks in Europe and domestically, Los Blancos host a resurgent Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu, with both sides keen to solidify their standing in La Liga's upper echelons.
Real Madrid
Real Madrid recorded their second consecutive home defeat, falling 3-1 to AC Milan at the Bernabéu in the Champions League in midweek. Madrid initially found themselves trailing after conceding an early goal but managed to level the score halfway through the first half with a composed Vinícius Júnior penalty.
However, the Brazilian’s effort was soon forgotten as the defending champions went behind again sixteen minutes later, before Tijjani Reijnders sealed the victory for the Italians in the second half. "The team is not playing well," Carlo Ancelotti said post-match. "We need to be more compact; we have conceded a lot of goals," he added, having witnessed his team concede seven goals in their last two games.
The Whites will now look to bounce back to winning ways as they return to La Liga action, hosting Osasuna this weekend. Madrid are currently second on the league table, with 24 points from 11 games, nine points behind table-toppers Barcelona; however, Los Blancos have a game in hand following the postponement of their match against Valencia last weekend.
Victory against Osasuna is crucial, as failure to secure all three points could see the defending champions fall further behind, casting doubts on their bid for a second consecutive league title. However, Ancelotti will have all three points written across his chest, considering a dominant record against the visitors, which has seen his team win 13 of the last 18 league meetings between both teams.
With Rodrygo back to full fitness, Ancelotti could revert to the familiar 4-3-3, with the 23-year-old Brazilian, Vinícius, and Kylian Mbappé in attack.
Osasuna
Osasuna are coming off a 5-0 mauling of Chiclana in the Copa del Rey in midweek, a game that was initially postponed due to flooding in the region. Despite manager Vicente Moreno’s absence, Los Rojillos secured a convincing victory with second-half goals from Raúl García, Iker Benito, José Arnaiz, and Moi Gómez.
This win marked Osasuna’s third consecutive victory across all competitions, including a recent 1-0 league victory over Valladolid. This successful run has placed them fifth on the table with 21 points from six wins, three draws, and three losses.
Osasuna are aiming to extend their winning streak as they travel to Madrid. However, they have struggled in the past, having failed to win in their last 16 away league games against Madrid, with three draws and thirteen losses.
Manager Vicente Moreno could return to the dugout this weekend after helping with severe floods in his hometown of Massanassa. A 4—3—3 formation is expected, featuring Rubén Peña, Ante Budimir, and Bryan Zaragoza in attack.
