Juventus in search of back-to-back UCL victories in trip to Leipzig.

RB Leipzig welcomes Juventus to the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night, where the hosts aim to bounce back in the UEFA Champions League and, perhaps, upset the Italian giants who are looking to shake off their recent poor away form in the competition.

RB Leipzig

Despite taking the lead inside the first five minutes on UCL Match Day 1 against Atletico Madrid, Leipzig failed to secure a win, conceding twice. This was Leipzig’s only defeat in five competitive games across all competitions, capped by a commanding 4-0 win over Augsburg in the Bundesliga last weekend.

Currently seated in 3rd place in their domestic league, Leipzig stands in 25th place in the UEFA Champions League table, one of fifteen teams that failed to earn a point on the opening day. Leipzig will be eager to move past their Match Day 1 defeat as they face two-time UCL Champions Juventus.

While they can be seen as underdogs, Leipzig has an opportunity to end Juventus’ four-game winning streak against German teams in major UEFA competitions. "It feels great. Everybody gave their all today. I believe we can play like that against Juventus as well," said Benjamin Šeško, who netted a brace in the win over Augsburg, hoping his side can replicate their domestic form on European soil.

The Slovenian Šeško is set to team up with Loïs Openda, who also scored at the weekend, in the attack against Juventus. Manager Marco Rose is expected to stick with the conventional 4-4-2 formation for this crucial match.

Juventus

A 3-0 win against Genoa helped Juventus return to winning ways after three successive goalless draws in Serie A. It was Juve’s second win in five games across all competitions, with the first being the opening day UCL win over PSV [DDWDW].

The deserved 3-1 win over the Dutch side saw Juve climb into 8th place on the league phase table after Match Day 1. A spot they would be looking to keep at the end of the second day of the revamped competition.

While Thiago Motta is looking to become the third Juventus manager to win his first two games in the competition, the Old Lady has lost four of her last five UEFA Champions League away games [0W, 1D, 4L], including each of the last three in a row. Motta will be hoping to steer his side away from a familiar defeat on the road this Wednesday.

The recently appointed manager deployed a 4—2—3—1 in the weekend game against Genoa and is expected to keep the shape in place when the Old Lady visits the Red Bull Arena. Dušan Vlahović, who bagged a brace at the weekend [48’ P., 55’], will lead the attack.
