Mbappe announces departure ahead of PSG's clash with Toulouse.
Following a disappointing Champions League exit, newly crowned Ligue 1 champions PSG aim to maintain their unbeaten run and set records as they host Toulouse at Parc des Princes this Sunday at 20:00 [GMT+1].
Paris Saint Germain
Paris Saint-Germain failed to reach the UEFA Champions League final after another 1-0 loss to Dortmund. The defeat left Les Parisiens with a 2-0 aggregate loss following a 1-0 loss in the first leg.
Back in Ligue 1, Les Parisiens were held in a 3-3 draw by Le Havre last time out. With the league already in the bag, PSG will have little to play for when they face Toulouse.
However, extending a 26-game unbeaten run might serve as motivation for the hosts when they welcome the Purples to the Parc des Princes. Furthermore, picking up a win in the next three games in the run-up to the French Cup final scheduled for May 25 against Lyon could also serve as a reason to have a good outing.
PSG have won 11 of their last 12 home games against Toulouse in Ligue 1. Avoiding defeat on Sunday would see Les Parisiens equal their second-longest unbeaten run in the top-flight.
However, having conceded in 10 consecutive home games, PSG could pick up an unwanted record of 11 games without a shutout. This would equal the club’s longest such run in the top-flight should they concede a goal against Toulouse.
A 4-3-3 formation with Kang-In, Randal Kolo Muani, and Kylian Mbappé in attack may be seen. Mbappé officially announced his departure from PSG today in a message on his social media.
“I hope we will finish this year with one final trophy. We’ll have some more good times in the time that is left and know that you will be forever in my heart,” Mbappé said.
Toulouse
Following last weekend’s defeat, Toulouse [DWDWL] are in 11th place on the Ligue 1 table with 40 points [10W, 10D, & 12L]. Les Violets lost 2-1 to Montpellier last time out in a game that saw both sides reduced to ten men.
They head into Sunday’s trip to the capital, hoping to return to winning ways in a bid to climb a few places up the table. Being the second-best away team in Ligue 1 in 2024 with 18 points [6W, 0D, 1L], behind PSG [19], Le Téfécé have the chance to win a fourth straight away game within a single top-flight season for the very first time in club history.
Carles Martinez Novell is expected to deploy a 4-3-3 formation with Thijs Dallinga, Yann Gboho, and Zakaria Aboukhlal in attack.
