UCL semifinalists PSG back in Ligue 1 for weekend clash against Lyon.

After stunning Barcelona with a 4-1 comeback to reach the UCL semifinals, Paris Saint-Germain returns to domestic action against Lyon, aiming to maintain their 10-point lead atop Ligue 1 amidst a thrilling Sunday showdown.

Paris Saint Germain

PSG are back in the domestic league after a 4-1 win over ten-man Barcelona in Tuesday’s UCL quarter-final second-leg clash. The remarkable turnaround, inspired by a Ronald Araújo red card in the 29th minute, left Les Parisiens with a 6-4 aggregate win over the Catalans following a 2-3 loss in the first leg.

PSG will now face Dortmund in the UCL semifinal, whose first leg is scheduled for May 1 at Signal Iduna Park. Back in Ligue 1, the French champions [DDWWD] failed to make an appearance last weekend, with the 1-1 draw against Clermont being their last outing.

They head into the weekend's game against Lyon hoping to keep a 10-point lead in place at the top of the table, having accumulated 63 points [18W, 9D, 1L]. Doing so would see PSG extend a 23-game unbeaten run in Ligue 1 [16W, 7D, 0L], which remains the club’s longest unbeaten run in a single season since the first 27 matches of the 2015/16 campaign.

However, a dip in form against the visitors could leave PSG without a point at the weekend, having lost two of their last three Ligue 1 home games against Lyon [1W, 0D, 2L]. Luis Enrique is expected to keep the 4-3-3 formation seen against Barcelona, with the midweek trio of Ousmane Dembélé, Bradley Barcola, and Kylian Mbappé all keeping their places in attack.

"It was the pressure that he [Kylian Mbappé] applied with Ousmane and Bradley that allowed us to press with five men," Luis Enrique said after Tuesday’s UCL win. Lucas Hernandez and Manuel Ugarte are both suspended for this fixture.

Olympique Lyonnais

Lyon are currently in 7th place on the Ligue 1 table with 41 points, following a hard-fought 4-3 win over Brest last weekend. The match saw both sides finish with 10 men.

Les Gones are aiming for three consecutive wins, having already secured back-to-back victories. This upcoming match will be the 90th clash between Paris and Lyon in Ligue 1.

During PSG’s QSI era, Lyon have managed to secure six top-flight wins against Les Parisians, with only Rennes doing better since 2011/12 with seven wins.

A 4-3-3 formation with Malick Fofana, Saïd Benrahma, and Alexandre Lacazette, who scored in the last game, is expected in attack. Nicolás Tagliafico is suspended after receiving a red card in the previous match.
