Gonçalo Ramos undergoes surgery before PSG's clash against Montpellier.
Paris Saint-Germain, fresh from a commanding season opener, aim to continue their winning streak as they host Montpellier at Parc des Princes this Friday at 19:45 [GMT+1].
Paris Saint Germain
A 4-1 win over Le Havre saw PSG begin the season with a victory last Friday, thanks to goals from Lee Kang-in [3’], Ousmane Dembélé [84'], and Bradley Barcola [86’]. Randal Kolo Muani [90’ P.] also scored from the penalty spot in the final minute at Stade Océane.
After calming fears of a post-Mbappe era, Les Parisiens are now aiming for successive victories. They will welcome Montpellier to Parc des Princes, seven days after Match Day 1.
PSG are on the verge of winning four Ligue 1 games in a row in the current calendar year. Additionally, they have won 12 of their last 13 games against Montpellier.
However, PSG have only won two of their eight home games in Ligue 1 this year, a concerning figure by their standards. Meanwhile, a €60 million deal for Manuel Ugarte (23) could materialize soon.
PSG will be without Presnel Kimpembe for another lengthy spell due to an injury setback. The 29-year-old has not played any competitive football in 18 months. Gonçalo Ramos is also sidelined after undergoing surgery following an ankle injury during the Ligue 1 curtain-raiser against Le Havre.
Luis Enrique will have to adapt his tactics without the centre forward when he deploys a 4-3-3 formation for Friday’s Match Day 2 opener against Montpellier.
Montpellier
Montpellier, on the other hand, salvaged a point in a 1-1 draw with Strasbourg, whose manager, Liam Rosenior, was making his managerial debut. Habib Diarra put Strasbourg ahead two minutes shy of the hour mark, but it was skipper Téji Savanier who came to the rescue with a 67th-minute penalty.
Savanier's goal helped Montpellier remain unbeaten after back-to-back draws across two seasons. Now facing a formidable opponent on Friday, Montpellier, who finished in 12th place last term, hope to go three Ligue 1 games without defeat.
Achieving this would leave them unbeaten in successive opening games for the second time in a row after a similar feat in the 2023/24 season. Michel Der Zakarian, holding a 38.89% winning percentage with the club, may appear in the dugout with last weekend’s 3-4-2-1 formation, leaving Nigerian forward Akor Jerome Adams in attack.
