Osasuna hoping to leapfrog 10th-placed Alaves in season finale.

As Los Rojillos aim for a top-half finish, Osasuna hosts Villarreal at El Sadar on Saturday in a thrilling season finale, hoping to extend their unbeaten run while their opponents strive to end the campaign on a high note.

Osasuna

Osasuna extended their unbeaten run in the league to three matches, following an impressive 4-1 win against Atlético Madrid last Sunday.

With 44 points (12W, 8D, & 17L), Osasuna sits in 11th place, just one point adrift of 10th-placed Deportivo Alavés, who face Las Palmas on Sunday.

The team is making preparations for the final game of the season against Villarreal, hoping to secure maximum points and finish in the upper half of the table. However, Osasuna, who finished 7th last season, have won just four of the last 13 meetings against Villarreal in La Liga (4W, 0D, & 9L).

Furthermore, the Reds have won only two of their last eight home games against Villarreal in La Liga (2W, 0D, & 6L).

The hosts could go four games without a defeat for the second time this season, having done so initially between February and March (3W, 1D, & 0L).

A 4—3—3 formation is expected from Jagoba Arrasate against Villarreal, with Aimar Oroz, Raul García De Haro, and Ruben Peña leading the attack.

Villarreal

Villareal picked up a 4-4 draw in last weekend’s eight-goal thriller against newly crowned champions Real Madrid, thanks to a haul from Alexander Sørloth [39', 48', 52', 56'].

The result helped the Yellow Submarine extend their unbeaten run in the league to three games [WLWWD]. Currently with 52 points [14W, 10D, & 13L], Villareal are poised to end the season in 8th place, regardless of the result from Saturday’s encounter against Osasuna.

Nevertheless, Villarreal, who finished in 5th place last season, are aiming to end the campaign on a high note. Having won their last three meetings with Osasuna in La Liga, Villareal will be looking to make it four wins in a row against the Reds for the second time in the history of the competition. They have only managed to do so once between 2013 and 2017.

However, Marcelino García Toral’s side have won just seven of their 18 away games in La Liga this season [7W, 5D, 6L]. The familiar 4-4-2 formation, with Goncalo Guedes and last weekend’s hero Alexander Sørloth in attack, is expected against Osasuna.

Alberto Moreno is suspended for the final game of the season following an accumulated number of yellow cards.
