Marseille hoping to end five-game winless run.

Olympique Marseille will aim to end their five-game winless streak as they host Lens at the Stade Vélodrome, following a thrilling 2-2 draw with Nice.

Olympique Marseille

Ten-man Olympique Marseille are coming into this match after a 2-2 midweek draw with Nice at the Stade Vélodrome. Terem Moffi gave Nice the lead at the 13th minute before Les Phocéens overturned it with a goal from Jonathan Clauss in the 31st minute and a penalty by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 56th minute.

However, they had to play the entire second half with ten men after Faris Moumbagna was sent off during stoppage time in the first half. They could not hold on to the lead, eventually conceding after a goal from Nice’s Melvin Bard in the 72nd minute.

Marseille are now winless in five matches and find themselves in 8th place with 41 points. They are seven points behind 5th-placed Nice. They face Lens next, aiming to leapfrog 7th-placed Rennes, who are two points ahead.

However, the Olympians have struggled in recent times against Lens, winning only one of the last seven meetings and losing the last three. They have also been poor at home against the Blood and Gold, losing the last three matches at the Stade Vélodrome and failing to score in two of those.

Jean-Louis Gasset lined up a 3-5-2 formation with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Faris Moumbagna in attack last time out. However, a switch to a 4-3-3 with Luis Henrique and Amine Harit teaming up with Aubameyang in attack is expected while Moumbagna serves a one-match ban following the red card. Chancel Mbemba and Ismaïla Sarr are among the four players sidelined with injuries.

Lens

Lens put an end to a four-game winless run [LLDLW] with a 1-0 victory over Clermont Foot, courtesy of Florian Sotoca's early goal [3'].

The Blood and Gold remained in 6th place with 46 points [13W, 7D, & 10L], six points adrift of the top four. With four matches left, Lens are looking to close in on the contenders in Sunday’s trip, aiming to end their two-match losing streak on the road.

Elye Wahi led the attack in the game against Clermont Foot. Lens are expected to retain the 3-4-2-1 formation when they face Marseille on Sunday.

“If we want to win, we will have to play a very big match. From experience, we know that our trips to Marseille are always intense. We will have to give everything and show maturity,’’ said Franck Haise in a pre-match press conference on Friday.

Jonathan Gradit is suspended for this clash due to accumulated yellow cards, while Jimmy Cabot is ruled out with an ACL injury.
