Monaco seeking five consecutive league wins in weekend trip to Lyon.
Olympique Lyonnais, desperate to bounce back from a bruising defeat, host a high-flying AS Monaco side eager to cement their second-place standing in a thrilling Sunday clash at Groupama Stadium.
Olympique Lyonnais
Lyon, who failed to feature in the midweek round of fixtures, are coming into this match after a humbling 4-1 defeat at the hands of league leaders PSG. Lyon conceded two early goals following a goal from Lucas Beraldo [6’] three minutes after an own goal from Nemanja Matić [3’ O.G.]. Moments later, a brace from Gonçalo Ramos [32’, 42'] put the game out of reach despite a goal from Ernest Nuamah [37'].
With 41 points [12W, 5D, & 13L], the Red and Blues sit in 9th place, having just as many points as 8th-placed Marseille, who have a superior goal difference. Lyon [WDWWL], who are seven points adrift of the top five, will be looking to get back to winning ways as they welcome Monaco on Sunday.
‘’The best way to regain confidence is to get back on the field and practice. This is what we did after two days of rest,’’ Pierre Sage said, ahead of Sunday’s match.
Having won the reverse fixture [1-0] last December, Pierre Sage’s men will be hoping to complete a league double over Monaco as they aim to revive hopes of claiming European places. Pierre Sage is expected to keep the familiar 4—3—3, with Ernest Nuamah, Alexandre Lacazette, and Saïd Benrahma in attack.
Monaco
Monaco extended their winning run to four games after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Lille, a victory which delayed PSG’s imminent title win.
The Red and Whites sit in second place on the league table with 58 points, 11 points adrift of table-topping PSG with four games to go.
With an unbeaten run of eight games, they also hold an impressive away record, not having lost in their last eight league games on the road.
Furthermore, Les Monégasques are the second highest-scoring side in the league this season, only behind league leaders PSG.
As they prepare for Sunday’s trip, hoping these numbers will help them tighten their grip on second place, Brest is five points adrift.
“We cannot know what will happen in this match, but my philosophy remains to play attack, to create chances, and to try to score goals while being solid defensively,” Adi Hütter said in his presser ahead of Sunday’s clash.
He is expected to field a 4-2-3-1 with Folarin Balogun in attack. Meanwhile, Wilfried Singo and Eliesse Ben Seghir are both suspended and will not be available.
Additionally, Caio Henrique and Aleksandr Golovin are both ruled out due to injuries.
