Napoli hoping to leapfrog Torino in final-day race for 9th-place finish.
Napoli aim to end their winless streak and secure a crucial 9th-place finish in Serie A as they host Lecce at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on the final day of the season.
Napoli
Napoli saw their winless run extend to six matches (0W, 4D, & 2L) after a 2-2 draw with Fiorentina last time out. The Blues took an early lead via Amir Rrahmani [8'] but went into half-time trailing 2-1. However, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia [57'] restored parity for Napoli in the second half to ensure the spoils were shared.
This result saw Francesco Calzona's side drop to 10th place on the Serie A table with 52 points (13W, 13D, & 11L). The Blues have now drawn three of their last five games (LDDLD) as they head into Sunday's game against Leece.
As a result of Serie A being handed a fifth qualifying spot in the UEFA Champions League and Atalanta's triumph in the Europa League, the team in 9th place could qualify for the Europa Conference League. The Blues can still finish in ninth if they win on Sunday, and 9th-placed Torino (53 points), who are just a point ahead, fail to defeat Atalanta.
Napoli have won five of their last seven league games against Lecce (5W, 1D, & 1L), scoring 19 goals in those matches (2.7 G/G). Furthermore, the hosts have found the net in each of their 12 home matches played against the visitors in Serie A.
Giovanni Simeone was at the center of the 4-3-3 seen in the draw with Fiorentina. He is expected to lead the line again, with Victor Osimhen ruled out with a muscular injury. Mario Rui (muscle) and Piotr Zielinski (thigh injury) are also sidelined.
Lecce
Lecce are without a win in their last four matches [WDDLL] after a 2-0 loss to Atalanta in their last league outing. The Yellow and Reds are 14th on the table with 37 points [8W, 13D, & 16L] and are mathematically capable of finishing one spot above their current position.
Luca Gotti's team, who finished in 16th place last season, will be looking to avoid a third straight defeat against Napoli. They have avoided defeat in four of their last seven Serie A away matches against the hosts [2W, 2D, & 3L], including the last two.
However, the Yellow and Reds have never avoided defeat in three away matches in a row against Napoli. The visitors have also never kept a clean sheet in their final match of the season.
A 4-4-2 formation with Nikola Krstović and Roberto Piccoli in attack is expected against Napoli on Sunday. Meanwhile, Lameck Banda [knee], Nicola Sansone [muscle], and Kastriot Dermaku [ACL] are all sidelined, while Mohamed Kaba is in doubt.
