Roma on the verge of three successive victories as Monza clash looms.

AC Monza, still searching for their first victory of the Serie A season, face a challenging task as they welcome a resurgent AS Roma aiming for a third consecutive league win at Stadio Brianteo this Sunday.

Monza

The only team yet to record a victory in the 2024-2025 Serie A campaign, AC Monza [LDDLL], sits at the bottom of the table as they prepare to face Roma. The latest episode of what has been an underwhelming season was a 2-0 defeat to Napoli last weekend.

First-half goals from Matteo Politano [22’] and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia [33’] were all it took to sink the White and Reds, handing them their third league defeat of the season. Alessandro Nesta will be looking to turn a corner this weekend as he goes in search of his first league win in charge of the club.

Monza will aim to avoid an unwanted record, which could see them fail to win any of their first seven games of the season for the first time in Serie A. However, their form in the league casts doubts on their ability to secure all three points this weekend.

Monza have not won any of their last 15 matches in the league [0W, 6D, 9L], with their last win coming as far back as March against Cagliari [1-0]. The Brianza team has not recorded a longer winless streak in the league since a 16-match run between December 2014 and April 2015 in Serie C.

Nesta will most likely deploy the familiar 3—4—2—1 formation, with Milan Đurić in attack.

Roma

Roma are coming off a 1-0 defeat to Elfsborg in the Europa League. A goal from Michael Baidoo [44’ P] was all it took to hand Ivan Jurić his first loss in charge.

‘The team did a lot of positive things. I saw a completely different game: we did many things well,’ said the recently appointed manager, commending his team’s performance despite the loss.

‘However, there are things we must improve on,’ he admitted, ahead of Sunday’s league game against Monza. Roma have recorded wins in their last two Serie A games, including a convincing 3-0 victory against Udinese and a hard-fought 2-1 win over Venezia last weekend.

This has pushed them up to ninth place, just one point behind eighth-placed Udinese. The Giallorossi will travel to Monza aiming to extend their winning streak to three games in a row [LDDWW].

They have won three of their last four games against Monza [3W, 1D, 0L]. Jurić’s men could become the first team that Monza has faced five times in the tournament without ever losing.

However, Roma have lost eight of their last 14 matches [2W, 4D, 8L] against Lombard teams in Serie A. A 3—4—2—1 formation could be seen this weekend, with Artem Dovbyk in attack.
