'It’s an important test.' Conte says ahead of Milan vs. Napoli.
This Tuesday evening, AC Milan aim to capitalize on their home advantage at the San Siro as they face a high-flying Napoli side riding the crest of a winning streak, in a thrilling midweek Serie A encounter that promises tension and tactical intrigue.
Milan
After seeing their game against Bologna postponed due to adverse weather conditions, Milan now face Napoli in this midweek encounter, hoping to secure back-to-back victories. The Rossoneri found themselves in 8th place after missing out on the weekend's round of fixtures.
Their last Serie A action was a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Udinese, which brought their total to 14 points with four wins, two draws, and two losses. Milan last defeated Napoli 1-0 at home, following two away draws of 2-2 and 1-1. Their last defeat to Napoli was in September 2022.
Aiming to maintain their five-game unbeaten streak against Conte’s side, Milan come into this fixture with three wins and two draws from their recent encounters. Milan is expected to field a 4-2-3-1 formation with Álvaro Morata leading the attack against Napoli.
However, they will be missing French left-back Theo Hernandez and Tijjani Reijnders due to suspensions. Tammy Abraham is sidelined with a shoulder injury, while long-term absentees Ismaël Bennacer and Alessandro Florenzi are still unavailable. There is a possibility of Davide Calabria making a return.
Napoli
Napoli, who are enjoying the longest winning run in Serie A, recently secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Lecce. Giovanni Di Lorenzo scored the decisive goal in the 73rd minute, ensuring the team remains at the top.
The Blues lead the league with 22 points from seven wins, one draw, and one loss, their only defeat occurring on opening day. Conte aims to maintain this momentum as his side travels to Milan.
Conte remarked, "It’s an important test against a top club; we’re going to San Siro with the right mentality." He further emphasized the challenge, adding, "The team has shown great maturity, but at San Siro, it’s not a walk in the park for anyone."
Discussing Rafael Leão, he noted, "Leão? He’s a player who breaks games; if you give him space, it becomes difficult. But Milan is not just Leão; we want to prepare ourselves as best as we can, and we only have Monday." Following their win over Lecce, he added, "Now let’s enjoy this victory, and from midnight we will think about Milan."
In the upcoming match against Milan, Napoli is expected to field a 4-3-3 formation with Cyril Ngonge, Romelu Lukaku, and David Neres in attack. Stanislav Lobotka remains Conte’s only injury concern.
