AC Milan in search of three consecutive victories after derby win.

AC Milan, buoyed by their thrilling derby triumph, welcome a struggling Lecce side to the San Siro this Friday, with both teams eager to alter their fortunes and climb the Serie A table.

Milan

Revitalised by their recent success in the Derby della Madonnina, the Rossoneri will take on Lecce with renewed confidence after a rocky start to the season. Paulo Fonseca’s side seems to have found its rhythm, having secured two consecutive wins while breaking a six-match losing streak against Inter Milan in Sunday’s Derby.

Their 2-1 victory in the derby, sealed by a late header from Matteo Gabbia, marked a turning point while ending speculation of a possible replacement on the management bench. Now sitting 7th in the standings with 8 points from five games, Milan will aim to continue their upward trajectory against Lecce before a challenging UEFA Champions League fixture in Leverkusen.

Milan have avoided defeat in 24 of their 25 matches against Lecce, winning 13 and drawing 11 times. In addition, they have won 10 of their last 11 home games against the visitors in Serie A and will be hoping to pick up another win on Friday.

Fonseca’s bold formation change against Inter paid off, switching from the familiar 4—2—3—1 to a conventional 4—4—2, with Tammy Abraham and Álvaro Morata in attack. It remains to be seen whether Fonseca will stick with a similar setup or revert to a more traditional formation.

Regardless, Rafael Leão and Milan’s top scorer, Pulisic, are expected to play a part in the attack unless Fonseca decides to rotate his squad ahead of the European clash against Bayer Leverkusen.

Lecce

In contrast, Lecce has faced difficulties recently. Luca Gotti's team has struggled to find form, failing to secure a win since August.

Their recent elimination from the Coppa Italia after a 2-0 defeat to Serie B side Sassuolo added to their woes. Furthermore, a disappointing 2-2 draw with Parma last weekend, where the Salentini conceded two stoppage-time goals after leading, has further dented their morale.

Now, Lecce must summon the courage to take on the Rossoneri. With only three points shy of Milan, Lecce, in 17th place with five points (2W, 1D, 2L), could climb dramatically up the table temporarily with a win over Milan.

Luca Gotti could deploy a 4—2—3—1 formation with Nikola Krstović in attack. Ex-Milan forward Ante Rebić is expected behind the centre forward.

French full-back Frédéric Guilbert is suspended after being sent off in the last match, so Andy Pelmard is likely to step in. Mohamed Kaba (ACL) and Medon Berisha (thigh) are injured.
