Milan eyeing end to four-game winless run as Cagliari visits.

This Saturday, AC Milan look to snap a four-game winless streak and bolster their second-place standing as they face relegation-threatened Cagliari at San Siro.

Milan

Second-placed Milan are now without a win in four Serie A games [WDLDD] after last weekend’s six-goal thriller, which ended in a 3-3 draw against Genoa. The topsy-turvy encounter at the San Siro came to an end with a Malick Thiaw [87’ O.G.] own goal, leaving Milan with 71 points [21W, 8D, & 6L].

However, with 3rd-placed Juve [66 points] also earning a point in a 1-1 draw with Roma, the Rossoneri's five-point lead over the Old Lady remained intact. On Saturday, Milan will be looking to return to winning ways in a bid to remain favorites for a second-place finish behind newly crowned Serie A champions Inter.

Milan are the team that have beaten Cagliari the most in Serie A, with the Rossoneri beating the Rossoblù 46 times [46W, 27D, 8L] while winning seven of their last eight matches against the visitors. With their last home defeat against Cagliari in Serie A dating back to June 1997, the host will have the necessary confidence to put an end to a four-game winless streak that dates back to April 6, when they defeated Lecce 3-0.

Stefano Pioli, whose side remains on a six-game winless streak across all competitions, will be without Mike Maignan [hamstring] and Ruben Loftus-Cheek [knee injury] for the weekend’s game when he deploys the familiar 4-2-3-1 with Giroud in attack. Jovic, who returned to group training this week, will be available again alongside the previously suspended pair, Yunus Musah and Davide Calabria.

Cagliari

Relegation-threatened Cagliari are in 15th place on the Serie A table with 33 points (7 wins, 12 draws, and 16 losses) following last weekend's 1-1 draw against Lecce, despite going down to ten men in the 44th minute. A goal from Yerry Mina in the 26th minute had Cagliari in the lead until Nikola Krstović equalized in the 84th minute at the Sardegna Arena.

The Sardinians, who are looking to avoid an immediate return to Serie B after earning promotion via the play-offs, are on a four-game winless run (2 draws and 2 losses). Cagliari, who are only three points above the bottom three, will be keen to avoid a 13th draw in a single season since last doing so in the 2011/12 season.

A 4-3-1-2 formation with ex-Milan forward Gianluca Lapadula and Zito Luvumbo in attack is expected. Gianluca Gaetano, who picked up a red card against Lecce, is suspended alongside Tommaso Augello. Manager Claudio Ranieri will also be without Nicolas Viola and Marco Mancosu.
