Pep nominated for Manager of the Month as City resumes title race.

Manchester City, fresh off a win and eyeing a fourth consecutive Premier League title, host Wolves at the Etihad on Saturday, with both sides eager to maintain their recent victorious momentum.

Manchester City

Manchester City had no problems sweeping Nottingham Forest aside, securing a comfortable 2-0 win over the Tricky Trees in last weekend’s fixture. A header from Joško Gvardiol [32'], followed by a goal from Erling Haaland [71'], kept City, who have a game in hand, in pole position to pick up their fourth successive Premier League title.

The Sky Blues will be looking to earn another victory this weekend, which could see them leapfrog the Gunners by two points, assuming Arsenal suffer an unprecedented defeat to Bournemouth in Saturday’s early kick-off clash.

Manchester City [WWWWW], currently in 2nd place with 79 points [24W, 7D, & 3L], have won seven of their last eight home Premier League matches against Wolves, losing only once, 2-0, in October 2019.

City could extend their 19-game unbeaten run in the Premier League [15W, 4D, 0L] on Saturday, maintaining an unbeaten streak in their last 31 games across all competitions [25W, 6D, 0L].

Erling Haaland, who was seen in training alongside several teammates on Thursday, is expected to lead the line in City’s 4-2-3-1 formation when they host Wolves on Saturday. Ederson, who was forced off with a shoulder injury in last weekend’s match, is expected to miss this weekend’s fixture.

In other news, Pep Guardiola has been shortlisted for the 'Premier League Manager of the Month’ award alongside Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and Sean Dyche, who recently succeeded in steering Everton to Premier League safety.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves [LDLLW] picked up their first win in four games after last weekend’s 2-1 victory over relegation-threatened Luton Town. The win helped the Wanderers climb to 11th place, having picked up 46 points [13W, 7D, & 15L].

The visitors, who finished in 13th place last season, have a top-ten finish as their target this term. On Saturday, they will be looking to secure a scarce back-to-back victory, which could also see them complete a league double over Manchester City, having won 2-1 in the reverse fixture back in September 2023.

The last time they achieved such a feat was in the 2019–20 season. Doing so would see them become the first team to pick up a league double twice against a Pep-led side.

Gary O'Neil could opt for a 4—1—4—1 formation with Matheus Cunha in attack for the weekend’s game against the Sky Blues. However, the visitors could be missing as many as seven players for the trip to Manchester.
