Juventus back in UCL action against Lille after Udinese win.

In a tantalizing clash of underdogs and powerhouses, Lille, fresh from toppling Spanish giants, hosts Juventus at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium, as both teams vie for pivotal Champions League points in their first-ever encounter.

LOSC Lille

After a 2-0 loss to Sporting CP in their Champions League opener, Lille have made a remarkable comeback with consecutive upset victories over two of Spain's biggest clubs. Bruno Génésio's side secured a historic 1-0 win against defending champions Real Madrid on matchday two, followed by an impressive 3-1 away victory over Atlético Madrid in their most recent UCL outing.

These achievements have propelled Lille to 16th place in the UCL league phase table, tied on six points with Tuesday's opponents, Juventus, who sit one spot higher due to a superior goal difference. This match will mark the first-ever encounter between the two sides in any competition.

Having proven themselves as giant killers in this year's competition, Lille will be confident of securing another three points against the Italian giants. A victory would allow the Mastiffs to match their highest number of wins in a single UCL campaign, achieved during the 2021-22 season. However, they have claimed just one win in their four previous encounters with Italian sides in the competition.

Lille come into the match following a 1-1 draw against Lyon, where an early goal from Jonathan David in the 17th minute was offset by a stoppage-time equalizer. "It's more the scenario of the match that leaves us with regrets," Génésio said after the game. David, who has scored in consecutive UCL games for Lille, is expected to feature prominently again as Génésio plans to deploy the 4-2-3-1 formation.

Juventus

Juventus are back in the UCL, eager to bounce back from their matchday 3 1-0 loss to Stuttgart on home soil. In what was a dramatic end to the game, Juventus gave away a penalty following a late challenge from Danilo, which resulted in the Brazilian’s dismissal in the 84th minute after a VAR review.

Although goalkeeper Mattia Perin came to the rescue, the Old Lady eventually conceded in stoppage time, suffering their first defeat in the competition. Juve will head into this Tuesday’s clash following a 2-0 victory over Udinese on Saturday.

‘Now, we need to shift our focus to the Champions League and recover well to face Lille at our best,’ Thiago Motta told reporters. While the visitors will look to secure three points this Tuesday, they have struggled in recent visits to France, winning just one of their last four games.

A 4—2—3—1 formation is expected, with Dušan Vlahović in attack. Meanwhile, Danilo is suspended.
