Miracle-needing Liverpool take on Top-four chasing Tottenham.

As Liverpool clings to faint title hopes, they face a formidable Tottenham at Anfield, each vying for critical points in a high-stakes Sunday showdown.

Liverpool

With the title race all but over, a miracle-needing Liverpool will take on Spurs at the weekend, hoping to pick up their first win in three games [DLWLD]. The Reds are coming off a 2-2 draw with West Ham, a result that had onlookers talking more about the touchline bust-up between Klopp and Salah than an obvious end to Liverpool’s title hopes.

With table-topping Arsenal [80 points] five points ahead, and City [79 points], who have a game in hand, four points ahead, Liverpool would need something short of divine intervention to have any chance of picking up a Premier League title. The hosts are 3rd with 75 points [22W, 9D, & 4L] and have to pick up three points this weekend when they face Spurs to keep fading hopes of a Premier League title alive.

"It's always a challenge [against Spurs]. I don't want to make it the biggest subject, but I can't forget the Tottenham game as well; it's just so strange," Klopp said in a pre-match press conference, reflecting on the reverse fixture, which ended in a 2-1 loss for Liverpool after Luis Diaz saw his legitimate goal ruled out for offside.

Liverpool, who have lost just one of their last 29 home Premier League matches against Tottenham Hotspur [19W, 9D, 1L], will be keen to come away with the win this time. A 4-3-3 formation with Darwin Núñez, Luis Díaz, and Salah in attack is expected against Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham, on the other hand, are coming off the back of Thursday’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea. Goals from Trevoh Chalobah [24’] and Nicolas Jackson [72’] left the Lilywhites with three defeats in a row [DWLLL], and the gap to 4th-placed Aston Villa growing to seven points.

"Our pressing has been consistent all year; our football's fluctuated. But especially in the first half [at Chelsea], we didn't show the same energy and intent in our defensive work. But, as I said after the game, that's my responsibility. I've got to look at how I'm preparing the team and the lineup we're putting out there," Ange Postecoglou said after Thursday’s loss.

Spurs are 5th with 60 points from 18W, 6D, & 10L and are looking to complete their first league double over Liverpool since the 2010-11 season. "We’re a long way off, but that doesn’t mean we can’t challenge next year. To be the team I want them to be, we are a fair way off, but I’m not dismissing; we have to be competitive and challenge for success year-on-year," Ange Postecoglou mentioned in a pre-match press conference. He is expected to deploy a 4—2—3—1 formation with Richarlison in attack.
