Everton hoping to end four-game losing run in Leicester.

Leicester City, seeking their first win of the season to avoid relegation omens, host an equally troubled Everton, aiming to prevent an unwanted record of five consecutive losses, in a high-stakes clash at the King Power Stadium this Saturday.

Leicester City

Leicester City were left with two defeats sandwiched by draws after throwing away a two-goal lead for a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace last weekend. Jamie Vardy had placed the Foxes in the lead before Stephy Mavididi extended the lead.

However, a brace from Jean-Philippe Mateta, with his second goal coming from the penalty spot inside stoppage time, put the would-be celebratory mood on hold. With only a point, the disappointing draw saw Leicester City tumble further down the table to 15th place while having only 2 points on the board.

They face Everton this weekend, hoping to find their maiden win of the season after going four opening games without a win. And in what appears to be a dark omen, the last three times they did so, in 1994-95, 2003-04, and 2022-23, Leicester City suffered relegation.

In addition, a less-than-impressive record against Everton in recent times has seen the Foxes win only once in seven games against the visitors. A 4-2-3-1 with Jamie Vardy in attack is expected for this fixture.

Odsonne Edouard returns to the squad having been deemed ineligible to play against his parent club, Crystal Palace, last time out. Jakub Stolarczyk and Patson Daka are both ruled out having suffered ankle injuries.

Everton

Everton’s 3-2 loss to Aston Villa last weekend reminded Sean Dyche of the horrors of the side’s inability to keep a two-goal lead, similar to their defeat against Bournemouth. "Unfortunately, we were on the wrong side of the margins again today. It's a tough one to take, for different reasons than the last game," said Dyche after the defeat.

The loss ensured Everton remained at the bottom of the table with a -9 goal difference after losing all four opening games of the season [LLLL]. Tuesday’s EFL Cup third-round exit further compounded Everton’s woes after the club lost on penalties to Southampton [5-6], following a 1-1 draw.

Dyche used the opportunity to remind his side of "killing games off." On Saturday, he will be hoping the advice is heeded when Everton make the trip to Leicester City. A defeat against fellow strugglers Leicester City would mark the first time Everton lose five opening games in a row since 1927.

A 4-2-3-1 formation with Dominic Calvert-Lewin in attack is expected for this fixture against Leicester City.
