Juventus keen to end three-game winless run in Genoa clash.

As Genoa looks to halt a challenging start to their season, they face a goal-parched yet defensively steadfast Juventus at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, seeking to extend an unbeaten streak against their illustrious visitors.

Genoa

Genoa have had a challenging start to their 2024-2025 campaign, managing to win only two out of seven competitive games. This includes a recent 2-0 league defeat to newly promoted Venezia, which has left them in 16th place on the Serie A table.

The Rossoblù's difficulties were compounded by a midweek exit from the Coppa Italia, where they were eliminated by bitter rivals, Sampdoria, in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw. Alberto Gilardino acknowledged this as his first moment of difficulty since taking charge, but emphasized the need for positivity and focus for their upcoming match against Juventus.

Hoping for a change in fortunes, Genoa, who have a recent form of DWLDW, will look to draw inspiration from their success against Juventus, having remained unbeaten in their last three Serie A encounters. They aim to extend this unbeaten streak against the Bianconeri, with a past record of remaining unbeaten in four consecutive league games between February 1990 and October 1991.

Interestingly, Gilardino's side has only suffered back-to-back defeats in Serie A once this calendar year, in March against Inter and Monza. For the upcoming match, Gilardino is expected to utilize the familiar 3-5-2 formation, with Vitinha and Andrea Pinamonti leading the attack.

Juventus

Meanwhile, Thiago Motta will be making a return to his former club when his Juventus side travels to Genoa this weekend. However, things have not been rosy for the Italian manager in recent times.

A seemingly rejuvenated Juventus got off to a flying start in the 2024-2025 Serie A campaign with back-to-back 3-0 wins against Como and Hellas Verona, but have since failed to find the back of the net. The Old Lady have recorded goalless draws in each of their last three Serie A outings [WWDDD], with the latest coming against Napoli last weekend.

‘We are not happy with the result; we put in a good performance but certainly not enough to win the game,’ Motta told reporters. ‘I have to analyse the matches and understand what to do,’ he added.

The only team yet to concede a goal in the league this season, Juventus sits in fourth place, one point behind third-placed Udinese. They will now look to get back to winning ways when they take on Genoa this weekend.

However, the Bianconeri have failed to win in five of their last nine league encounters [4W, 1D, 4L] against the hosts at the Ferraris Stadium. A 4—2—3—1 formation is expected, with Dušan Vlahović in attack.
