3 Fulham vs 1 Newcastle United
Fulham in search of home win in Newcastle clash.
Following a disappointing EFL Cup exit, Fulham aim to bounce back against an in-form Newcastle side at Craven Cottage this Saturday.
Fulham
Fulham will be looking to put their midweek EFL Cup exit behind them as they return to Premier League action. The Cottagers were eventually outdone in a prolonged penalty shootout against Preston after a 1-1 draw.
The disappointment follows last weekend’s draw against West Ham, where a stoppage-time goal from substitute Danny Ings [90'+5] robbed them of three points. They remained in 12th place after that home clash against the Hammers.
Fulham will face Newcastle this weekend, a team whose form appears to be on the rise. The Cottagers [LWDD] have been without a home victory since August when they defeated Leicester City 2-1.
With a five-game losing streak in the Premier League against Newcastle and an eight-game winless run against the visitors [0W, 2D, 6L], prospects of earning a win on Saturday appear dim. Raúl Jiménez, who scored in his first start of the season against West Ham, is expected to keep his place in attack.
Adama Traore, who came close to earning a penalty for Fulham last time out, is expected to team up with Iwobi and Emile Smith Rowe in attack. Carlos Vinícius is Fulham’s only injury concern.
Newcastle United
Newcastle earned a comeback 2-1 win over Wolves last time out thanks to a stunning goal from Harvey Barnes in the 86th minute. The win not only left Newcastle with back-to-back victories, but also unbeaten in four Premier League games.
The Magpies are 3rd with 10 points on the board, one of the two sides to have that many points. However, a better goal difference keeps Arsenal in 2nd place ahead of Newcastle.
Nevertheless, it remains the Magpies’ best start to a Premier League season since 1995/96, when they won their opening four games under Kevin Keegan. Having won their last four away games against Fulham, Newcastle will be looking forward to returning with five wins in as many trips to Craven Cottage.
Eddie Howe will be looking to steer Newcastle away from defeat in a bid to equal a five-game unbeaten opening run last seen in 2011-12 under Alan Pardew. A 4—3—3 formation with Anthony Gordon, Jacop Murphy, and Isak might be seen in attack.
Isak, who was forced off at halftime against Wolves following an eye injury, remains in doubt as a candidate for a late assessment. He complained of blurred vision after he was struck in the face, so his availability is still uncertain.
