Inter Milan set sights on new target after Sassuolo defeat.
As newly crowned Serie A champions Inter Milan visit relegation-threatened Frosinone at Stadio Benito Stirpe, the Canaries hope to defy the odds and secure vital points in their fight for survival.
Frosinone
Frosinone earned a point in last weekend’s relegation battle with Empoli, staying above the Blues by goal difference. The home team failed to convert any of their four shots on target and had to settle for a goalless draw at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.
The draw, their fourth in five Serie A games, leaves Frosinone in 16th place with 32 points. On Friday, the Canaries will aim to avoid defeat again to bolster their chances of beating the drop.
With 78% of their points picked up at home this Serie A campaign, those numbers could serve as extra motivation for the Canaries when they host Inter. However, Frosinone, only two points above the bottom three, have lost each of their five matches against Inter in Serie A.
Manager Eusebio Di Francesco is expected to keep last weekend’s 3-4-2-1 formation with Marco Brescianini in attack. Enzo Barrenechea is suspended after picking up an excessive number of yellow cards.
Inter
Newly crowned champions Inter suffered their second defeat of the season last weekend in a 1-0 loss to relegation-threatened Sassuolo. A fabulous goal from Armand Laurienté saw Inter suffer a double against the Watermelon Peel, who became the only side not only to defeat Inter this season but also the only side to have done so twice.
Following the defeat, Inter’s new target of reaching 100 points became mathematically impossible, with only three games remaining while having 89 points. The Nerazzurri, however, will be looking to return to winning ways when they make the trip to Frosinone, who are fighting for Serie A survival, on Friday.
With a 100-point finish now out of reach, Inter will have their sights set on beating their club record of a 96-point finish, with 98 points attainable. The familiar 3-5-2 formation will remain in place. However, Simone Inzaghi could choose to replace Alexis Sánchez with Marcus Thuram, who watched from the bench against Sassuolo, in attack.
The Frenchman could team up with Lautaro Martínez following Inzaghi’s heavily rotated squad last time out.
