Roma eye win against Fiorentina after Europa League victory over Dynamo Kyiv.

This Sunday, Fiorentina will aim to extend their unbeaten streak and break a long-standing curse against Roma at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, as both teams grapple with key player absences and the desire to climb higher in the Serie A standings.

Fiorentina

Fiorentina picked up a 4-2 win away at St. Gallen last Thursday, maintaining their perfect start in the revamped Europa Conference League after two matches. The Violets will resume Serie A action this weekend, looking to extend their unbeaten streak to five matches [LWDWW] as they face Roma.

Last weekend, Raffaele Palladino's side went on a rampage with a 6-0 win away at Lecce, marking the first time since October 1966 they scored six goals in an away Serie A game. This victory propelled Fiorentina to 6th in the table, with 13 points after eight matches [3W, 4D, 1L].

A win on Sunday would see the Violets achieve three straight Serie A victories for the first time since December. However, they have managed just two wins in their last 12 Serie A encounters against Roma [2W, 4D, 6L], with the most recent two meetings ending in draws.

Moreover, Fiorentina have lost each of the last four occasions they faced Roma while being ahead on the table at the start of the match day. The team could be without their two strikers from the win over Lecce; Moise Kean was fit only for the bench against St. Gallen, and Albert Guðmundsson is ruled out.

“It is not easy, as he had a real knock in the Lecce game, but if he doesn’t make it then we have valid alternatives. I am relaxed,” Palladino said about Kean's fitness. With both strikers possibly absent, a 4-4-2 formation featuring Edoardo Bove and Christian Kouamé in attack might be seen for Sunday's clash.

Roma

A penalty from Artem Dovbyk in the 23rd minute secured a 1-0 victory for Roma over Dynamo Kyiv in the Europa League on Thursday. This was their first win in the competition after three matches. "Overall, we deserved the victory," said coach Ivan Jurić after the game.

In Serie A, however, it was a different story for the Giallorossi as they recently suffered a 1-0 defeat to Inter at the Stadio Olimpico. This marked Jurić's first league defeat since becoming the manager last month, leaving Roma in 10th place with 10 points from eight matches.

Roma will head into Sunday’s clash looking to end a three-match winless streak away at Fiorentina, having failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 10 visits to Florence. A 3-4-2-1 formation with Dovbyk leading the attack is expected for the match.

Unfortunately, they will be without Stephan El Shaarawy, due to a muscle injury, and Alexis Saelemaekers, who is sidelined with an ankle issue.
