Bayern hoping to reclaim first place after Bochum holds Dortmund to 1-1 draw.
As Bayern Munich aim to rebound from a challenging period and reclaim top spot against relegation-threatened Hertha BSC, all eyes will be on Sunday's high-stakes clash at the Allianz Arena.
FC Bayern München
Mainz swept Bayern Munich aside in a 3-1 win last weekend, compounding Tuchel’s woes in the wake of their UEFA Champions League exit. The Bavarians are without a win in four games across all competitions, currently enduring their worst Bundesliga season in 12 years.
The defeat to the Zero5ers saw Bayern slip into second place. However, with first-place Dortmund picking up only a point in their 1-1 draw with Bochum, Bayern are looking to reclaim the top spot.
Following the departure of Julian Nagelsmann, current FC Bayern München head coach Thomas Tuchel has won just two of his first seven competitive games in charge. Bayern have suffered as many defeats in these seven games under Tuchel as they did in Nagelsmann’s 37 competitive matches this season.
Tuchel, who spoke in a pre-match press conference on Friday, could line up a 4-2-3-1 formation with 18-year-old Mathys Tel in attack. Bayern will be without Dayot Upamecano, who suffered a muscle strain, along with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Alphonso Davies.
Leon Goretzka and Kingsley Coman are also doubts for Sunday’s game after failing to take part in Friday's group training. "Upa got injured yesterday and will be out for around two weeks," said Thomas Tuchel on Friday.
Hertha BSC
Relegation-threatened Hertha are hoping to escape defeat at the hands of Bayern on Sunday, having already picked up three defeats in a row (LDLLL).
The visitors have 22 points (5W, 7D, 17L) heading into the weekend while nursing hopes of leaving the bottom two. The Old Lady are six points shy of safety while in 18th place ahead of Sunday's game.
With 22 points after 29 games, this is Hertha BSC’s joint-worst Bundesliga season since three points per win was introduced.
On Sunday, Dál Dárdai could choose a 3—5—2 formation with Chidera Ejuke and Dodi Lukébakio in attack for this clash against Bayern.
Suat Serdar and Marc Oliver Kempf are both suspended after picking up an excessive number of yellow cards, while Márton Dárdai and Kelian Nsona are both ruled out.
