Bayern face Frankfurt ahead of UCL semi-final adventure against Madrid.
Bayern Munich look to extend their winning streak and exact revenge for their worst defeat of the millennium when they host Eintracht Frankfurt at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.
FC Bayern München
Bayern Munich moved three points clear of third-placed VfB Stuttgart after last weekend’s 5-1 win over Union Berlin. This victory helped Bayern solidify their hold on second place, especially after Stuttgart suffered a 2-1 loss to Werder Bremen. With little left to play for in the Bundesliga other than securing second place, the Bavarians are aiming for their third consecutive victory this weekend when they host Frankfurt.
Bayern have accumulated 66 points ahead of Saturday’s clash with the visitors. They hope to avenge their worst defeat of the millennium, a 5-1 loss to Frankfurt in the reverse fixture. This match will also serve as a key preparation ahead of Bayern’s UEFA Champions League semi-final first-leg clash against 14-time UCL titlist Real Madrid on April 30.
In other related news, outgoing boss Thomas Tuchel has reportedly held talks with Manchester United owner Jim Ratcliffe regarding the manager's position following an underwhelming season for the Red Devils under Erik ten Hag. For Saturday's game, Tuchel is expected to deploy a 4-2-3-1 formation with Harry Kane leading the attack. However, the team will be without Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane, and five other players.
Eintracht Frankfurt
The visitors are currently 6th in the Bundesliga table with 45 points (11W, 12D, 7L). They ended a four-game winless run (LDDLW) with a 3-1 victory over Augsburg last weekend.
Die Adler are 12 points outside of the top five with four games left to play and will aim to maintain their five-point lead over 7th-placed Freiburg, who have 40 points.
Eintracht Frankfurt are the only current Bundesliga team unbeaten in their last two matches at FC Bayern (1W, 1D). Going three games unbeaten away to Bayern would be ideal.
However, they have won only one of their six Bundesliga away games in the second half of this season (1W, 2D, 3L), a 2-1 win at 1. FC Heidenheim in early March.
Manager Dino Toppmöller is likely to stick with the 4-4-2 formation used against Augsburg. This would see Omar Marmoush, who has 11 goals and six assists, partnering with PSG loanee Hugo Ekitike in attack.
