Crystal Palace eye three consecutive wins over Manchester United.

This Saturday at 17:30 [GMT+1], Crystal Palace, buoyed by a midweek EFL Cup victory, aim to extend their historic winning streak against a goal-hungry Manchester United at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace

A midweek 2-1 win over QPR in the EFL Cup gave Palace something to cheer about following last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City. The Eagles had come close to a third Premier League defeat, but a brace from Jean-Philippe Mateta [47’, 90’+2 P.] helped Crystal Palace salvage a point after coming back from two goals down against the Foxes.

On Saturday, the Eagles will be looking to earn their maiden win of the season when they take on Manchester United in front of the home crowd. They will be keen to pick up where they left off after a double over the Red Devils last season. It was the first time Palace would pick up successive victories over Manchester United in club history.

Recently, Palace have seen their stocks rise against United, picking up five victories in the last 10 fixtures between the two sides [5W, 2D, 3L]. Before those five wins, they were on a 20-game winless run against Manchester United in the Premier League [0W, 4D, 16L].

Oliver Glasner is expected to keep three at the back once again in a 3—4—1—2 formation, leaving last weekend’s hero Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eddie Nketiah in attack. Eberechi Eze may take his place right behind the duo.

Manchester United

Manchester United swept ten-man Southampton aside in a 3-0 win last weekend when both sides met at the St. Mary’s Stadium. The victory was followed up with a 7-0 dismantling of Barnsley in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night. With ten goals in the last two games across all competitions, the Red Devils will be hoping they can erase last season’s memories against Palace.

"Not in particular," Erik ten Hag replied when asked if he and the coaching team had learnt lessons from last season's game. "We know what will come to us. We know it's always tough there, always aggressive there, but we know also the circumstances, and you can't compare this," he added.

However, with two defeats in three away games against Palace, doubts could begin to take shape before the weekend’s meeting. In addition, a trip to the capital has not produced any form worthy of note. The Red Devils have won just two of their last 16 Premier League away games against London sides (2W, 4D, 10L).

A 4-2-3-1 with Joshua Zirkzee in attack is expected against Palace. Rasmus Højlund could make a return here following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
