Already-relegated Burnley take on Nottingham in dead-rubber game.

Already relegated Burnley seek to say farewell to the Premier League with a win as they host Nottingham Forest, who are eager to end their season on a high note, in Sunday's showdown at Turf Moor.

Burnley

Now relegated, Burnley take on the Tricky Trees in the final game of the season, hoping to bow out of the Premier League with a win. The Clarets became mathematically unable to escape relegation after last weekend’s 2-1 loss to Tottenham.

They put up a fight, taking the lead via Jacob Bruun Larsen in the 25th minute before conceding twice. Micky van de Ven's goal in the 82nd minute secured Tottenham’s second, handing Burnley an immediate return to the Championship.

The defeat leaves the club with 24 points, accumulated from 5 wins, 9 draws, and 23 losses, and back-to-back defeats in their last two games. Meanwhile, with 18th place still mathematically possible, Burnley, who are 19th, could have something to play for when they host Nottingham for the first time since a 1-0 win in February 2016.

They take on the visitors in what could still be described as a dead-rubber game. Having won six of their last seven home league games against Forest (6W, 1D, 0L), Burnley hopes to remain unbeaten. However, Burnley are on a six-game losing run on Match Day 38 in the competition.

A 4-4-2 formation with Fofana and Foster in attack is anticipated for the weekend’s game against Nottingham. Vincent Kompany will be without five players for the final game of the season.

Nottingham Forest

Despite a 3-2 defeat to a resurgent Chelsea last weekend, Nottingham became mathematically assured of finishing in 17th place, one spot below 16th, where they finished last term, following Luton’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham.

Although the Tricky Trees could remain with as many points as 18th-placed Luton, a superior goal difference of -19 to -31 will get Nottingham over the line.

The Reds have 29 points ahead of Sunday’s clash. They remain keen on finishing the season with a victory, despite being winless in their last six league games against Burnley since a 2-0 home win in December 2012.

However, the Reds haven't won their final league game in any of the last four seasons. A 4-2-3-1 formation with Chris Wood in attack is expected for Sunday’s season finale.

Neco Williams, who is Nottingham’s only player on the treatment table, will not take part in this fixture.
