''It's time for Real's streak to end,'' Edin Terzić says ahead of UCL final.
After nine months of enthralling European football, Dortmund face 14-time champions Real Madrid in a UEFA Champions League final showdown at Wembley this Saturday.
Borussia Dortmund
After nine months of grueling European football action that saw 32 teams slug it out, Dortmund will face 14-time UCL champions Real Madrid in the final this weekend.
The Yellow Wall held firm across both semi-final legs against PSG to reach the finals after an identical 1-0 win in both fixtures. One-time winners in the tournament, having picked up the title way back in 1996/97, Dortmund’s credentials pale in comparison with the well-deservedly named Kings of Europe.
Nevertheless, having emerged from the Group of Death before seeing off the likes of PSV, Atletico Madrid, and PSG on the way to their third UCL final, Dortmund wouldn’t be short on confidence when they face Madrid despite being underdogs. "Our objective is to win the Champions League and to do that, you have to beat the champions," Edin Terzić said in the buildup to the final.
Saturday’s UCL final will be the 15th meeting between both sides on European turf, with Madrid being the team Dortmund has faced the most. Dortmund have only won three of their 14 matches against Madrid (3W, 5D, 6L).
Irrespective of Madrid’s towering record, the Black & Yellows will be looking to bring their European campaign to a fairy-tale ending when they take on Los Blancos. "It's time for Real's streak to end," Terzić said, hoping to end Madrid’s eight-game UCL final winning run.
A 4—2—3—1 with Niclas Füllkrug in attack is expected.
Real Madrid
With no disrespect to Dortmund, Real Madrid's path to the final further showcases the club's zeal in their relentless pursuit of a record 15th UCL title. This would add to their already impressive collection, which is twice as many as AC Milan, the second most successful club in the competition with 7 titles.
The Whites emerged victorious in heart-racing games against Leipzig, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich. They are aiming for a win in Saturday's UCL final, marking their 18th appearance in a European/UCL final.
"We're not thinking about being the favourites. Borussia are a side with quality, commitment, and attitude. We're convinced that we're going to have to dig deep, fight, and battle as we do in every final," said Carlo Ancelotti.
Aurelien Tchouameni and David Alaba are ruled out of the weekend’s final at Wembley. Thibaut Courtois appears to be the preferred option in goal, ahead of Andriy Lunin.
A 4-1-2-1-2 formation with Rodrygo and Vinícius Júnior in attack is expected for Saturday's final. Newly-crowned La Liga Player of the Year, Jude Bellingham, will take his place right behind the attacking duo.
With the final game for the departing duo Marco Reus and Toni Kroos, onlookers can only wonder who the night will belong to. A captivating contest awaits.
