Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy to make debut against Heidenheim.

A historic clash awaits as Borussia Dortmund, buoyed by a flawless home run but missing key players, host the unlikely Bundesliga leaders Heidenheim, who boast a perfect start and are eager to extend their surprise dominance in Germany's top flight.

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund settled for a goalless draw with Werder Bremen just before the international break. The Black and Yellow finished the game with ten men, as Nico Schlotterbeck was sent off for a second yellow card with 17 minutes left to play.

"It was far too easy to defend against us today. There were several areas in which we weren't good today," was Nuri Şahin's verdict after the game. Since replacing Edin Terzić as Dortmund’s manager, Şahin is yet to taste defeat in three competitive games across all competitions, having picked up a 4-1 victory over Phönix Lübeck in the DFB Pokal.

The hosts have four points from their first two matches, leaving them in fourth place on the Bundesliga table. Next in line is a game against Heidenheim, the only side to keep a shutout this season alongside Dortmund.

Both sides met for the first time last season, with both matches ending in a draw, making Heidenheim the only team BVB has never beaten in the Bundesliga. However, the hosts are on a three-match winning streak on home soil and could extend it for the first time since the beginning of last season.

A 4-2-3-1 formation with Maximilian Beier in attack is expected for Friday's clash. Schlotterbeck is suspended for this match following his red card, while Giovanni Reyna and Kjell Wätjen are sidelined with injuries.

Serhou Guirassy could make his debut for the club, having recovered from injury. "He's making an excellent impression in training; I'm glad he's back," Nuri Şahin said in a pre-match press conference.

Heidenheim

Heidenheim have started the Bundesliga season with two opening wins, making it five consecutive victories across all competitions since the start of the 2024-25 campaign. Frank Schmidt's team celebrated their biggest-ever Bundesliga win with a 4-0 triumph over Augsburg at the Voith Arena on Match Day 2.

This victory propelled them to the top of the Bundesliga table with six points, boasting a superior goal difference over second-placed Bayern Munich and third-placed Leipzig, both of whom also have six points. Remarkably, this marks the first time Heidenheim have ever led the league, becoming the 35th club to reach this milestone since the league's inception.

Additionally, Heidenheim have achieved two clean sheets in their first two matches, a first for them in the top flight. They are anticipated to adopt a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Marvin Pieringer spearheading the attack.

The team will have to manage without Thomas Keller, due to an ACL injury, and Lennard Maloney, who is sidelined with a back injury. These are the only absentees for Schmidt's side.
