Dortmund seeking end to two-game winless run after UCL win over PSG.

After their impressive win over PSG in the Champions League semi-final, Borussia Dortmund aim to break a two-game winless streak in the Bundesliga against Augsburg at Signal Iduna Park this Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund are coming off the back of a famous 1-0 win over PSG in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg. It could have easily been 4-0, but a host of clear-cut chances went begging, leaving BVB with only one goal via Niclas Füllkrug [36’].

"We played a very good game and claimed a narrow but deserved victory. We've managed to get a small advantage for the return leg. But nothing more. The task next week will be even more difficult," Edin Terzić said after the narrow UCL victory over Les Parisiens.

That victory sealed a spot for BVB in the upcoming revamped edition of the UEFA Champions League, as it handed the Bundesliga a fifth UCL qualifying spot. With that, Stuttgart, Leipzig, and Dortmund all have a place in the 2024/25 edition of Europe’s most prestigious club competition.

Nevertheless, fifth-placed Dortmund will be looking to return to winning ways [WLWDL] when they host Augsburg at the weekend. With 57 points [16W, 9D, & 6L] and three games to go, Die Schwarzgelben could still finish two places up the table, with 3rd-placed Stuttgart [64 points], who face Bayern in a difficult fixture, just seven points away.

Edin Terzić could deploy a 4—2—3—1 with midweek hero Niclas Füllkrug given a rest ahead of next week’s UCL semi-final second leg in France. Youssoufa Moukoko could take his place in attack. Meanwhile, Emre Can and Ian Maatsen will rejoin the squad after failing to feature in last weekend’s 4-1 loss to Leipzig due to being suspended.

FC Augsburg

Augsburg suffered back-to-back defeats last weekend after an embarrassing 3-0 loss to Werder Bremen. The visitors are currently 8th with 39 points ahead of Saturday’s clash with Dortmund.

This weekend, the Fuggerstädter will aim to end their two-game losing streak despite a six-game winless run against Dortmund in the Bundesliga. The last time Augsburg picked up a win over the Black & Yellows was back in September 2020, leaving them with only one win in eight encounters.

A 4-3-1-2 formation with Tietz and Demirović in attack may be seen from Jess Thorup. However, Kristijan Jakic is suspended for the weekend’s game, while as many as three players, including Fredrik Jensen, are ruled out due to injuries.
