Athletic Club eye four consecutive victories in Sevilla clash.

Athletic Bilbao aims to extend their winning run and secure a historic clean-sheet streak against a struggling Sevilla side in a highly anticipated clash at San Mamés on Sunday.

Athletic Club

Athletic Club kicked off their Europa League campaign with a 1-1 draw at Roma on Thursday. The Lions were edging close to defeat after Artem Dovbyk scored for Roma in the first half, but Aitor Paredes secured a point with a late goal.

Athletic Club will now refocus their energy on La Liga, where they are hoping to extend their winning run to four matches. The Basque club picked up a 3-1 win against Celta Vigo in their last league outing, leaving them in 5th place with 13 points.

With a home game against Sevilla coming up next, Athletic Club will be hoping to win three straight La Liga games against the visitors without conceding for the second time in history, after doing so in 1972. The Lions are also looking to win four La Liga games in a row while scoring two or more goals for the first time since March 2016.

However, the hosts have lost three of their last five home games against Sevilla in La Liga, having won each of the previous nine at home against them. Ernesto Valverde lined up a 4-2-3-1 with Gorka Guruzeta in attack last time out and is expected to retain the shape against Sevilla.

Sevilla

After failing to win any of their first four league games of the season (0W, 2D, & 2L), Sevilla have now won two of the last three (DLWLW), leaving them in 13th place with eight points.

Sevilla recorded a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Real Valladolid in their last league game. Los Nervionenses went ahead when Valladolid defender David Torres (45’ O.G.) put the ball into his own net, but parity was restored via Kike Pérez (56') in the second half.

With the game heading for a draw, Chidera Ejuke (85') stepped up to score his first goal for Sevilla, handing the club all three points. García Pimienta's side will travel to Athletic Club looking to improve their recent away record after losing three of their five games on the road in La Liga (0W, 2D, & 3L).

However, things are not looking positive, as Los Nervionenses have lost each of their last five visits to Basque sides in La Liga, conceding at least two goals in each of those five games. Defeat on Sunday will see Sevilla lose six such games in a row for the first time since September 1982, when they lost eight in a row.

A 4-2-3-1 formation with Dodi Lukebakio in attack is likely to be seen for Sunday's clash. Marcos do Nascimento Teixeira (R. 90') was sent off against Valladolid and is suspended for this game.
