Aston Villa take on Wolves after UCL win over Young Boys.

Aston Villa aims for their third consecutive Premier League victory as they host Wolverhampton Wanderers, who desperately need a turnaround after a string of disappointing results.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa made their debut in the revamped edition of the UEFA Champions League in impressive fashion with a 3-0 win over Young Boys on Tuesday night. Unai Emery dedicated the win to Gary Shaw, who passed away one day earlier, having helped Villa win the 1981 league title and the European Cup in 1982.

‘This victory is for Gary Shaw; we can't follow a Champions League win like they did 42 years ago. We want to celebrate this victory for him and the whole family of Villa,’ Unai Emery told TNT Sport after the UCL victory. The win left Villa with back-to-back victories across two competitions ahead of Saturday’s clash with Wolves.

Before the midweek victory, a jaw-dropping 30-yard screamer from Jhon Durán [76’] had given Aston Villa the 3-2 win over Everton in what turned out to be the game of the weekend. Unai Emery will be looking to steer Villa to four wins in a row and a third successive Premier League win when they face Wolves, a side whom they defeated in their last league meeting in March.

While Jhon Durán has been hitting incredible heights off the bench, Ollie Watkins, who bagged a brace last time out, is expected to remain as Unai’s first choice in attack once again when he deploys the 4—2—3—1.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

The Wanderers are coming off the back of a 3-2 loss to Brighton in an EFL Cup clash on Wednesday, one that left them crashing out of the competition in the third round.

Back in the Premier League, Wolves threw away a one-goal lead against Newcastle United and were eventually left empty-handed after a stunning goal from Harvey Barnes [80’] completed the comeback for the Magpies.

The 2-1 loss was their third defeat of the season, ensuring Wolves remained with only a point [LLDL], while in 18th place on the table.

Though early days in the Premier League, Gary O’Neil will be keen to lift his side off the bottom three when they make the trip to Villa Park. However, a torrid run of form has produced only one victory in fourteen Premier League games [1W, 3D, 10L] for the visitors.

In addition, the Wanderers are winless in seven PL games [0W, 1D, 6L]. Gary O’Neil will be hoping Saturday’s fixture at Villa Park will help his side turn a corner.

A 4—2—3—1 formation with Jørgen Strand Larsen in attack is expected for this weekend’s meeting.
