Aston Villa eager to seal fourth-place finish as Liverpool visits.

Aston Villa aims to bounce back from their Europa Conference League heartbreak as they face third-placed Liverpool in a crucial top-four Premier League showdown at Villa Park on Monday night.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa aim to move past their disappointing Europa Conference League exit as they face Liverpool on Monday night. After a 6-2 aggregate defeat to Olympiacos, including a 2-0 loss in the second leg of the semi-final, the Villans are eager to bounce back.

Returning to Premier League action, Aston Villa are looking to break a two-game winless streak. They are currently in 4th place with 67 points, having suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Brighton last weekend.

Historically, Villa have struggled against Liverpool, winning just once out of their last 12 Premier League meetings. That sole victory was a memorable 7-2 triumph at Villa Park in October 2020.

Since their return to the Premier League, Aston Villa have won their final home game in three of four seasons, with the only exception being a 1-1 draw with Burnley in the 2021-22 season. Manager Unai Emery expressed motivation and excitement ahead of Monday's game.

A 4-4-2 formation featuring Ollie Watkins and Jhon Durán up front is expected. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who returned to action in the Europa Conference League clash against Olympiacos, will be back in goal.

Liverpool

Now spectators to the two-horse Premier League title race between Arsenal and Manchester City, third-placed Liverpool, who have 78 points (23W, 9D, & 4L), will be on the hunt for back-to-back victories (LWLDW) on Monday night.

"We still have a chance. We all can read the table; we all see the situation. Do we expect them to lose? [Manchester] City has to lose three games. Three. Difficult to see that. But you never know. And Arsenal has to lose two games – difficult," Klopp said over Liverpool’s near-impossible chance of picking up the Premier League title.

Meanwhile, the visitors have won more Premier League away games against Aston Villa than they have against any other opponent (16). No fixture in Premier League history has been won by the away side more often than Aston Villa vs. Liverpool, with 22 of the 57 meetings between both sides being away wins.

A 4—3—3 with Salah, Gakpo, and Luis Díaz in attack is expected for this fixture. As many as three players, including Joël Matip and Diogo Jota, are ruled out.
