Arsenal welcomes Southampton after UCL win over PSG.

After a triumphant Champions League night against PSG, Arsenal return to the Emirates to face struggling Southampton, aiming to extend their domestic triumph and exploit the Saints' dismal away record.

Arsenal

A 2-0 win over French champions PSG in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night extended Arsenal's winning run to three games in all competitions. A fabulous reverse header by Kai Havertz and a free kick by Bukayo Saka, which evaded everyone including PSG’s goalkeeper, secured the victory for Arsenal.

"I think it raises the confidence and the belief that we can compete with any team at this level in games that are very different to the Premier League," said Mikel Arteta after the win. The Gunners will now shift focus to Saturday’s clash against Southampton, looking to achieve back-to-back victories after their dramatic 4-2 win over Leicester City last weekend.

Currently in 3rd place, level on points with 2nd-placed Manchester City, Arsenal hopes for favorable results as table-topping Liverpool and City play this weekend. While a three-game winless run against Southampton poses a challenge, Arsenal has remained unbeaten in their last 40 Premier League home games against promoted sides.

The team is anticipated to adopt a 4–4–2 formation with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli leading the attack against Southampton.

Southampton

The last episode of Monday night football didn't go particularly well for Southampton, who suffered a 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth. The Saints found themselves three goals down at halftime and managed to pull one back nine minutes before the hour mark. However, it was too little and too late to change the game's outcome.

With only one point on the board and currently in 19th place after six Premier League games (0W, 1D, 5L), Southampton will be eager to climb out of the bottom three. However, their dismal away record against Arsenal offers little comfort as they prepare for the trip to London.

Southampton are enduring a 24-game winless run on the road against the Gunners (0W, 8D, 16L). Additionally, they have lost 82 of their 139 Premier League away games against London sides, a daunting 59% loss rate.

While a trip to London might bring back unwelcome memories, Russell Martin aims for an unexpected victory. He plans to deploy the 4-2-3-1 formation with Tyler Dibling leading the attack, hoping for a surprising outcome.
