Howe returns to Bournemouth for Newcastle's maiden away trip.
This Sunday at the Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth aims to ignite their home campaign with new signing Evanilson, while Newcastle seeks back-to-back victories in their Premier League showdown.
AFC Bournemouth
Bournemouth will be looking to kick-start their home campaign on a positive note as they welcome Newcastle to the Vitality Stadium on Sunday afternoon. After salvaging a 1-1 draw on the opening day thanks to a late equaliser, the Cherries have been further boosted by the club-record signing of striker Evanilson.
The arrival of the Brazilian forward fills a significant void left by Dominic Solanke’s departure. While Bournemouth are eyeing a win, they have won just one of their last nine Premier League fixtures against Newcastle (1W, 5D, 3L).
An ominous air of uncertainty hangs over Sunday’s clash, with the Cherries having failed to pick up a win in eight attempts in the month of August (0W, 3D, 5L). Club-record signing Evanilson is set to make his debut after netting 13 league goals for Porto last season.
“Evanilson trained well, and he will for sure be involved in the game,” Andoni Iraola said in a pre-match press conference. A 4-2-3-1 formation with Semenyo in attack is expected.
However, the Cherries will have to cope without Tyler Adams and Enes Ünal, who are sidelined with injuries.
Newcastle United
Ten-man Newcastle started their league campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Southampton, thanks to a goal from Joelinton in the 45th minute, despite playing the entire second half with a numerical disadvantage. Fabian Schär received a controversial red card two minutes before the half-hour mark.
The Magpies are now looking to pick up back-to-back victories on the second day of the Premier League when they visit Bournemouth. They will be looking to win two opening Premier League games for the first time since the 1997/98 season.
"It's a fixture that means a lot to us as staff because of our time with the football club, but I think it's never been any different," Eddie Howe said on his return to Bournemouth, where he spent 11 years as a manager. However, the focus remains on picking up a win.
"When you turn up for a game, you're there to win and to give your best, trying to do everything you can to get all three important points for us currently," Howe said, despite expecting an emotional reunion with the opposing fans.
A 4-3-3 formation with Alexander Isak teaming up with Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy in attack is expected. Fabian Schär is suspended for this clash after receiving a red card last time out.
