Spain are crowned the 2024 champions! The team triumphed in the Euro 2024 final with a thrilling 2-1 victory over England on Sunday.
This victory steered Spain to a record-breaking fourth European Championship title, surpassing Germany, the host country.
After a goalless first half, the excitement kicked in immediately after half-time. Nico Williams broke the deadlock, netting a goal assisted by Lamine Yamal to give Spain the lead.
England's response came in the 73rd minute when Cole Palmer equalised with an assist from Jude Bellingham, setting up a nail-biting finish.
As the clock ticked down, Mikel Oyarzabal delivered the deciding blow for Spain, securing the win with a late goal, assisted by Marc Cucurella.
"We're happy and proud of this great group of footballers," Spain coach Luis de la Fuente expressed joyfully. "I think we've achieved something very difficult. It's a day of pure happiness, and that's all we want: to enjoy it."
He added, "Soon we'll start thinking about the future because this is a very ambitious group that wants to win many more tournaments."
England manager Gareth Southgate shared his thoughts, "I'm devastated for everybody, really. The players have been incredible; I'm so proud of what they've done, but we've just fallen a little short." Speaking to ITV Sport, Southgate reflected on England's successive Euro finals loss.
He acknowledged, "We had a bit of momentum after the equaliser and a big chance to level at the end, but probably across the 90 minutes, we didn't quite do enough."
