In Euro 2024 action, Austria emerged triumphant against Poland at the Olympiastadion Berlin with a 3-1 victory. The score was level at 1-1 by halftime before Austria clinched the win in a thrilling second half.
Austria started strong, taking the lead early when Gernot Trauner brilliantly headed in a goal after just nine minutes, courtesy of an assist by Phillipp Mwene. Poland responded as Krzysztof Piatek equalised with a close-range tap-in after half an hour, bringing the score to 1-1.
In the 66th minute, Christoph Baumgartner put Austria back in front, assisted by Alexander Prass. “It was a very important win for us; we're all very happy because we invested a lot in this game. We deserved to win it in the end,” said Marko Arnautović.
Austria then solidified their lead in the 78th minute when Marko Arnautovic confidently scored from the penalty spot. The penalty was awarded after a goal-bound Marcel Sabitzer was fouled by Szczęsny, rounding off a thrilling encounter in Austria's favour.
