Switzerland set the tone early in their Euro 2024 opener against Hungary at the RheinEnergieStadion. Kwadwo Duah struck first, finding the back of the net just 12 minutes in with a helping hand from Michel Aebischer, putting Switzerland ahead 1-0.
As the first half drew to a close, Switzerland doubled their advantage. In the 45th minute, Michel Aebischer, this time as the scorer, extended the lead with an assist from Remo Freuler, sending the teams into halftime with a 2-0 scoreline.
Hungary fought back in the second half, narrowing the deficit when Barnabás Varga scored in the 66th minute, capitalizing on a clever assist by Dominik Szoboszlai. However, Switzerland sealed their victory during stoppage time, as Breel Embolo struck to make it 3-1.
With this victory in the books, both teams look ahead to their upcoming matches. Hungary will face Germany on 19 June and Scotland on 23 June, while Switzerland prepares to take on Scotland on 19 June and Germany on 23 June.
