Slovakia Begins Euro 2024 with Win Against Belgium

In their Euro 2024 opener, Slovakia edged out Belgium with a 1-0 win at Deutsche Bank Park. It was Ivan Schranz who made the difference, netting a goal in the 7th minute, courtesy of an assist from Juraj Kucka.
Belgium's relentless pursuit of an equalizer, led by their star striker Romelu Lukaku, was fraught with frustration. Despite an impressive left-footed finish that was chalked off earlier, Lukaku saw another potential goal denied by VAR, leaving the Belgian fans and players disheartened.
Clearly deflated by these reversals, Belgium head coach Domenico Tedesco reflected on the missed opportunities, acknowledging, "The only thing that we didn't do well was taking chances. We had plenty. It's part of the game."
Looking ahead, Belgium will face Romania on June 22 and then Ukraine on June 26. Meanwhile, Slovakia will prepare for their encounter with Ukraine on June 21, followed by a clash against Romania on June 26.
Despite the defeat, Belgium's high pressing and multitude of chances hinted at a promising form, albeit one that didn't translate into goals. It's a setback, but Tedesco's trust in the referees and his team's spirit speaks volumes about their resilience.
