Palace eager to find maiden season win in London derby against Spurs.
Crystal Palace, still searching for their first win of the season, face an uphill battle against a high-flying Tottenham Hotspur side at Selhurst Park, hoping to defy their dismal record against the visitors.
Crystal Palace
With free-scoring Spurs making a trip to Selhurst Park, Palace could see their three-game losing run drag on even further. To compound their problems, Crystal Palace [DDLLL] are among the four sides in the Premier League yet to find a win this season.
Along with Ipswich Town, Southampton, and Wolves, Palace are on the quest for their maiden win. However, those dreams could face a setback, given their poor record against Sunday’s visitors.
Crystal Palace have won just one of their last 18 Premier League games against Tottenham [1W, 2D, 15L], a statistic that hardly inspires confidence in their ability to break their season-long winless run.
“Tottenham will bring intensity, runs, pace, and high quality...” said Oliver Glasner, noting the possible absence of Heung-Min Son but acknowledging the threat of new addition Dominic Solanke.
“We're always under pressure, especially if we don't have the results that we all want. That’s normal in football, so it's something you have to deal with,” Glasner remarked, as he attempts to navigate this challenging period for his team.
Heading into this early kickoff, Glasner may be without Cheick Doucouré and three other players, as he plans to deploy a 3—5—2 formation with Eddie Nketiah and Mateta in attack.
Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs, who were on a goal-scoring rampage against West Ham, secured a 1-0 victory over AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League earlier in the week. That win marked back-to-back victories across all competitions for them.
A similar achievement in the Premier League will be their aim this weekend when they visit Selhurst Park. Tottenham have a strong record against Crystal Palace, winning 19 out of their 30 Premier League encounters with the Eagles.
Tottenham Hotspur have also won three of their last four Premier League matches, matching their win tally from the previous 11 games. A 4-3-3 formation is expected for the weekend's clash, featuring Solanke, Mikey Moore, and Brennan Johnson in attack.
However, as noted by Glasner, Heung Min-Son is not expected to make the short trip across town. The South Korean missed Thursday night's Europa League win following a knock in last Saturday's game against West Ham United.
